Enjoyed Living Here

Overall, I have enjoyed living at BMain and haven't had any large issues. I like that it is close to Station 9, but not in S9. All of the apartments have Nest thermostats in them, which is great for saving money on cooling/heating. The community kitchen space is really nice and is perfect for having a large group of people over. The common spaces can be reserved online, which is also very convenient.

Be aware of where you chose to live in the apartments, as we are very close to the train tracks and the apartments that face the tracks have to deal with incredibly loud trains 5-10x a day.

Great spot

Great high-end place for this area. Definately worth the premium and see if you can negotiate on price.

Living in Berkshire Main

Berkshire Main is one of the nicer buildings in the Ninth Street area. It is different from S9 and B9 because the complex is smaller, but with all the same amenities. In addition to that our hallways are internal. The building is a mix of (quiet) undergrads, doctors, and families. I moved here because I wanted access to the social life at S9 but also to be in a quieter building. It's been a great compromise and there are a handful of Fuquans here so I'm not alone. The facilities are comparable to B9 but the small size and internal hallways set it apart.

Nice new building, a bit pricey, live on non-train tracks side of building

Berkshire Main is in a great location, very convenient for the Fuqua social scene. However, you still have to drive over the campus, which for me usually makes for a 20 minute door-to-door commute. If I had to do it all over again, I'd live at lofts or trinity commons so I could walk to campus. However, if you're going to live in the 9th street area, Berkshire Main is a solid choice. Much quiter than Station 9. Just be sure to live on the non-train tracks side of the building. The train gets really noisy.

Great Complex, Great Location

Love BMain. It's a stone's throw away from Berkshire Ninth and Station Nine, yet a bit nicer and bit quieter. The shared amenities are great, in particular the pool, which is the nicest complex pool around. Gym is adequate and overall it's reasonably priced here.

Generally great, some small nitpicks

This place is generally great: the floors are nice, countertops gorgeous, kitchen full of storage, nice bathroom, big closet. The apartment uses the Nest smart thermostat, which is kind of like living in the future. Overall, it's a great value. The onsite amenities are all nice, and the gym is the nicest I've seen in any complex I've lived in. However, there are some small things that I wish were different. Some lights are not very bright (bedroom and living area), and the water heater is not big enough to fill the very nice, deep tub. Furthermore, the placement of the washer and dryer in the closet causes the closet to become extremely humid when the dryer is running.

Nice, modern apartment complex with a prime location.

The facilities are beautiful, spacious, and very modern. One of the best gyms I have seen at any complex in the area. Location is a big plus for the complex. It is walking distance to 9th Street and Duke's West Campus. Public transportation is less than a 5 minute walk. The apartment is, however, located adjacent to a railroad track and depending on where your apartment is located, it can be very loud. Aside from the occasional party, the apartment is relatively quite. Rent is a bit pricey for the broader Durham area, but on par with other apartment complexes in the vicinity. My biggest complaint is management. They do a poor job managing the complex. They change policies often and can't seem to keep some of the advertised common area perks functional or stocked (i.e. coffee machine is constantly broken or out of supplies, printer doesn't work, towels are a rarity in the gym).

Neighborhood has been great. Haven't been commuting to school all that frequently for obvious reasons, but takes less than 10 minutes to do so. I can grab everything I need and meet with friends all within walking distance. Durham could use more street lights in general, but in terms of safety, I think 9th street is your best option!
Best place to live hands down. Next to the supermarket, so many food options and many complexes in the area. Near downtown and Duke. Great if you’re new in town because it is super safe. Perfect if you have a car because the only downside is that depending on what Duke school you’re in it might not be walking distance.
Ninth Street is super walkable and majority of Fuquans live in the area. Definitely worth it to pay a little more to live in walking distance of so many classmates. Plus the restaurants on Ninth Street are great, and a short walk (~3 mins) to East Campus to use the walking trail!
Everything is close: other complexes like S9, B9; bars like flying bull, the tavern, supermarkets like Harris Teeter or Whole Foods, East campus hiking route.

You can get to the school by bus (45 mi) or by car (10 min). Carpooling is very commom.
Neighborhood is fine. All the Duke grad students live in the same area so it makes for a pleasant student community, and there are some decent restaurants and grocery stores within walking distance.
Harris Teeter and Whole Foods are right nearby, and the area feels generally safe. 5 min from the highway if you need to drive outside of Durham. ~10 min to get to the WaDuke/Science Drive.
The 9th St. neighborhood is great because it is within walking distance to all of the shops and restaurants on 9th St. It could be better if it were closer to Fuqua and/or downtown Durham.
All the restaurants around the 9th street area are within 5 mins walk from the complex. The campus is an 8-10 minute drive. Downtown Durham is also an 8-10 minute drive away.
