Great mostly

I live in a studio, the rent is relatively good (1700-1800$), especially for living alone in a safer area in the DMV. They charge a monthly fee if you have a dog or a cat, but if you have other pets, they won't charge. Also, parking above ground is really affordable compared to other places, it's $100 a month, and it's very safe and has paid guest parking (10$ a day-ish). It's about a five minute walk from the metro if you live in the James building and cut through the mall. There's also a grocery store, mall, and nice restaurants around the James building. The pool is really nice, there is a lovely gym with a sauna, roof top view, and safe mail room. The biggest downside is that there is no in unit washer and dryer, there is washer and dryer units in the basement that you can pay for, however, they aren't great, like I always have to run the dryer twice so its pretty pricey after a while. I would also say every time there's a really windy day or a big rain storm, so like approximately once every three months, the power will go out, it's an old building.

Great mostly

I love it cause its like 5 mins from the mall entrance to the pentagon city metro. Only real issue is that the power goes out like once every 2 months or so when there is a storm. Also its an older apartment complex so things aren't like luxury in the apartment.

Amazing Neighborhood, Simple Studio

I love my apartment. It is definitely an old building but unkept well.

Communication with management is okay, sometimes you have to bug them. I had a water bug in my apartment once and they had a extermination treat it with in 48 hours.

The neighbor is amazing - pentagon city mall, metro, Harris teeter, target Whole Foods and lots of restaurants in walking distance. Plus a park with soccer, baseball, tennis, and basketball courts.

The building also has 2 gyms, yoga classes, business center and a pool. I stay in a large studio with a waking in closet. Laundry is communal.

The apartment is very good and it's huge. The only downside is that the laundry is common.

Great place

The amenities around here are awesome. Walking distance to a planet fitness, Target, Harris Teeter, CVS, 10+ different restaurants, the entire Pentagon City mall is here, 7 minute walk to the metro and 15 minute ride into school. Great place to live if you don't want to live in downtown DC.

Great except 20 minute commute

Apartment is great tons of space, much cheaper rent in Arlington compared to in DC/Foggy Bottom I pay the same/less compared to people with roommates but I have far more space. Commute is about 20-25 minutes with the Metro which is close by.

Best place outside DC

The best apartment complex/community, three buildings with grills on rooftops, two pools, tons of space and green (which is hard to find in a city), next to pentagon city mall, its a great area overall. You do only have the blue line for the metro and have to walk through the mall but it's not bad at all. Extremely recommend at least looking at this place!

Getting around Pentagon City

Pentagon City Reviews

66 reviews
Pentagon City is nice and fairly quiet, which is good for studying. There are some students around but it's mostly families and working individuals. There's not a ton to do, but there are some nice places to walk, and there is a good array of restaurants. The apartment is close to a Harris Teeter and a Whole Foods and Costco.
Safe. Feels like a retirement community. Drivers stop to let you cross the street to the apartment.

For the metro, the ride itself is about 20 min. I just budget in extra time for walking and not wanting to arrive just on time. It shouldn't take 45 minutes to get to school unless they're doing maintenance. Then, add 10 minutes.
The Crystal City and Pentagon City area has a lot of restaurants and shopping in convenient walking distance. The area tends to clear out after 5 on weekdays, but is often busy on weekends, mostly with tourists. I have always felt safe walking alone in the area at whatever time of day/night.
There is not a lot of green space, unless you count Long Bridge "Park", which is a dead-end, cement "bridge" that looks over soccer and baseball fields with some views of D.C.
The location is great. It's a 7 minute walk to the blue line metro, and the total commute to campus is 25 minutes (when the blue line is running properly). An uber takes about 12 minutes and costs an average of $5 per ride (with uber pool). Pentagon City has just about everything you could need. There is a Whole Foods across the street, and the Fashion Center mall is right next to the metro station. There are restaurants, coffee shops, and convenience stores, and a very well maintained public park.
General vibe is 30-somethings wanting to settle down, lots of dogs. Not a huge social scene (which I'm A-OK with).

Pros:
-Very metro-accessible (blue/yellow, so can get into the city in multiple directions if there are delays)
-Walkable - easy to get to grocery store, Pentagon City mall, library, restaurants, etc. within minutes
-Quiet and safe, and generally well-lit in the evenings

Cons:
-I'd like to see a few more restaurant options. There are good casual dining options, like Naked Pizza, California Pizza Kitchen, and the mall food court, but besides Bonefish Grill there's not much a step up from that.
-I don't feel much sense of community, and don't know my neighbors. Not as diverse-seeming as other parts of DC.
The Pentagon City area is safe, quiet (except for big shopping weekends!), and well-lit. Grocery store (Harris Teeter) and tons of other shopping options for all other needs. The metro station is convenient to all area apartment complexes. Great green space/parks across from mall with lots of walking paths. Closest churches however are on 23rd St in Crystal City -- which is not too far of a walk in good weather!
There are dining and shopping options galore. A massive three story shopping mall directly across the street. There are multiple parks in the area and grocery shopping options are within a 15 minute walk. There is a public library nearby and many bus routes.
Safe, affordable. Easy walking access to restaurants and grocery store. Quick access to D.C. via Blue/Yellow lines.
