A little of everything

Living at the Riverhouse has a lot to offer. Tranquil space with 38 acres of land and amenities while still being across the street from Shopping in Pentagon City and metro access. The insulation on the Apt's is great. I rarely ever hear neighbors. Riverhouse has great balance if you don't mind being outside of the popular areas. Overall my experience there has exceeded my expectations!

Great if you have top view and no laundry

We have loved living at Riverhouse for years. But when it comes down to it it's expensive for what you get in your actual apartment. We were lucky enough to have an awesome view of the DC skyline...until the trees grew even more. There is no balcony but a lovely roofdeck. The pool is great and they are renovating the gym, which is only crowded at peak hours. However, the prices for two bedrooms are astronomical compared to comps in the neighborhood. Kitchens are tiny galley kitchens, though the gas stove is nice. The killer is no in-unit laundry, which is a common amenity in most buildings around Pentagon and Crystal City. Maintenance is quick and friendly, plenty of parking but the prices keep going up. Guest parking used to be free, but now that's no longer true either, leaving you feel a little nickel and dimed for something so easy to remedy, but I guess revenue is revenue even though these little charges and monetizing what were once small free perks has left a bad taste to us.

Riverhouse Apartments

It's a nice place that gives you walking distance to grocery stores, shopping mall, restaurants, Costco, etc. The rent is OK considering the location. The only thing is the traffic. It takes me 30 minutes to go to work and 60 minutes to come home on average.

This is a pet friendly place, and my neighbors are nice. Management is OK, and they respond to repair requests quick promptly.

Overall I love this place, I got a nice view that I can take a look at the D.C. clearly from my window. No complains so far.

Older building, but very convenient

The James's location in Pentagon City is very convenient to the Metro, Harris Teeter, and other retail and restaurants, and the convenience is this building's best attribute. The building is older (1958) but has undergone substantial renovations to the common areas in the last few years. There are newer and more luxurious buildings in the neighborhood, but the convenience of the James is unmatched.

Spacious for a studio, metro accessible and near great social area

Decent sized apartment for the price (570 sq ft), which is high due to proximity to Pentagon City metro and Pentagon Row attractions. I appreciate the 24 hour concierge and 24 hour gym. Pet friendly! The apartment complex is chalked for expansion...

Decent Place

More affordable than actual DC, still very close to Metro, very easy to get to District. Building is old but maintained. Pricing for nearly everything is separate, which is transparent but confusing. Have not been for a year, cant say about increases

Safe Neighborhood!

Of all the apartments I've lived in, I enjoy this the most.
The neighborhood feels safe at nighttime, I can walk my dog without fear of anything.
My friends also have raving compliments about the setup of the apartment and the privacy it allows with the walls being somewhat soundproof.

Riverhouse

This apartment complex is in a really nice, quiet neighborhood and you really can't get the same value in downtown DC. Of course the drawback is that going out on say U Street on the weekend means an hour long trek back home. The neighborhood also doesn't have a ton of character, but it does have your chain restaurants and the mall. Our concierge is the man and they come and fix ANYTHING that's wrong in our apartment. Pool is kinda cool, although it's only open memorial day to labor day which sucks. Grills are awesome and the roof is clutch. Just a short walk to the metro!

Great Place to Love!

I have lived at Riverhouse for 2 years now and it's been great. My favorite part is the lobby area which has tons of sitting and lounging space. It has free wifi and I love to study there. The rooftop is also a great study spot. I love that it is pet friendly. I don't have a dog but love to play with all the ones in the building. The valet downstairs is also super convenient for dry cleaning. Management is great too

Getting around Pentagon City

Pentagon City Reviews

66 reviews
Pentagon City is nice and fairly quiet, which is good for studying. There are some students around but it's mostly families and working individuals. There's not a ton to do, but there are some nice places to walk, and there is a good array of restaurants. The apartment is close to a Harris Teeter and a Whole Foods and Costco.
Safe. Feels like a retirement community. Drivers stop to let you cross the street to the apartment.

For the metro, the ride itself is about 20 min. I just budget in extra time for walking and not wanting to arrive just on time. It shouldn't take 45 minutes to get to school unless they're doing maintenance. Then, add 10 minutes.
The Crystal City and Pentagon City area has a lot of restaurants and shopping in convenient walking distance. The area tends to clear out after 5 on weekdays, but is often busy on weekends, mostly with tourists. I have always felt safe walking alone in the area at whatever time of day/night.
There is not a lot of green space, unless you count Long Bridge "Park", which is a dead-end, cement "bridge" that looks over soccer and baseball fields with some views of D.C.
The location is great. It's a 7 minute walk to the blue line metro, and the total commute to campus is 25 minutes (when the blue line is running properly). An uber takes about 12 minutes and costs an average of $5 per ride (with uber pool). Pentagon City has just about everything you could need. There is a Whole Foods across the street, and the Fashion Center mall is right next to the metro station. There are restaurants, coffee shops, and convenience stores, and a very well maintained public park.
General vibe is 30-somethings wanting to settle down, lots of dogs. Not a huge social scene (which I'm A-OK with).

Pros:
-Very metro-accessible (blue/yellow, so can get into the city in multiple directions if there are delays)
-Walkable - easy to get to grocery store, Pentagon City mall, library, restaurants, etc. within minutes
-Quiet and safe, and generally well-lit in the evenings

Cons:
-I'd like to see a few more restaurant options. There are good casual dining options, like Naked Pizza, California Pizza Kitchen, and the mall food court, but besides Bonefish Grill there's not much a step up from that.
-I don't feel much sense of community, and don't know my neighbors. Not as diverse-seeming as other parts of DC.
The Pentagon City area is safe, quiet (except for big shopping weekends!), and well-lit. Grocery store (Harris Teeter) and tons of other shopping options for all other needs. The metro station is convenient to all area apartment complexes. Great green space/parks across from mall with lots of walking paths. Closest churches however are on 23rd St in Crystal City -- which is not too far of a walk in good weather!
There are dining and shopping options galore. A massive three story shopping mall directly across the street. There are multiple parks in the area and grocery shopping options are within a 15 minute walk. There is a public library nearby and many bus routes.
I like the neighborhood, lots of food options, close to a movie theater, and right next to a mall. Only downside is many of my friends live in D.C. and you can feel apart from the city often.
