I was given a trash unit, smoke and rodent infested unit with a gas leak.

First, move-in was delayed one week because the apartment foundation had sunk and was not walkable. They repaired it but left the wire rods under the carpet instead of removing the tripping hazard. The foundation kept sinking, and the ealls cracked in every room. One crack ran the length of the living room. Smoke and stink weed smell would flood into my apartment -- you could see the smoke swirling in the air. Ash particles would rain down and cover me, my couch, my bed, my towels. My eye lashes were stuck together in the morning, my eyes were always irritated, and my gums started bleeding. My doctor put me on string steroid inhalers. There was also a gas smell coming from the drain outside my window. Also the stove was leaking gas. I was getting dizzy and had severe confusion and couldn't speak. I was taken to urgent care. The oven was leaking from the side. NICOR said they should replace the valve and oven which I relayed to Axiom. The valve was replaced but not the oven. I tried to use the oven and within a day the vision changes and dizziness came back. I told Axiom's regional manager too and they still wouldn't replace the oven. Also because of the foundation issues the kitchen was higher than the living room, so the oven gas would roll to the LR. So I cut off the new installed valve per the site facilities manager. The eye vision loss, dizzibess, stumbling, etc. went away. But I didn't have a stove or oven for 10 months and the rent was not adjusted and the issue with the stove was not fixed despite my verbal and written requests. The water in the toilet bowl kept getting lower so I had to add water to flush. The shower water was brown. The bathroom sink had black sludge and dirt coming out as gooey strands so I had to use bottled water to brush my teeth. They wouldn't let me out my lease despite several requests and they also didn't move me to another apartment. When the walls cracked they wanted me to move furniture myself out the way, but before I moved in they told me that if they had to fix the walls or foundation they would have their movers move everything and put me in a temporary unit if need be. I was never helped and never given temporary housing. I was ADA injured. It was hard for me to move furniture to fix walls that kept cracking because they were lifting foundations on the units around me and due to a sinking foundation. The inner doors, doorway to the apartment corridor and sliding closet doors didn't stay on the track or the door and jamb did not align. My front door had issues locking and unlocking. Also just before I left something furry broke into my apartment. A mouse and 2 rats on different nights. I was terrified. The rats left black smudges on the carpet. The exterminator came and just threw down bait. Another facilities person said that was not enough. The rodents had to be caught before they have babies. I asked Westmore to put down traps and plug the wall holes in the kitchen. The mouse was caught but the rats ran up into baseboard heater (register). And smoke from the bldg corrdir would enter my apartment from the hallway outside. So in summary: gas leak, smoke and ash, rodents, door locks not working, water not clear/clean for use, and rodents. And not very much done by management.

Apartment

Westmore is a good place to live for a NUHS student due to it being 5 minutes from school. It has a great atmosphere and is in a safe neighborhood. It is a great place to live but very expensive for a student.
