Great place to live

I had a great experience. The location is excellent. Very close to the Scalia Campus and you can walk pretty much everywhere. Everything is so close by. Supermarket, pharmacy, mall, restaurants, bars, metro, UPS, etc.

Amazing Building!

I couldn’t be happier with AVA Ballston Square! The building was recently renovated, so all the facilities are new. The management has been great to work with so far. We are one block from a grocery store and there are plenty of food services nearby! It is about a 15 minute walk to campus!

Good Apartment

The building is great if you like the location. Leasing, maintenance, and the front desk are super nice. I lived in the building for two years and have never had any bad experiences, however after the Ballston mall went under construction I didn't feel like the area really had much worth doingin the area anymore. That being said, once the new mall comes in and they continue building high rises and renovating, I could see Ballston becoming another Clarendon-like spot in Arlington. Harris Teeter is walking distance and the metro is right across the street though which makes it a very accessible location.

Close to the metro (3 minute walk)

I think this is a great value because it is a 15 min silver line ride to McLean or 18 min ride to Towers/Westpark/1750. The 2 bed 2 bath is a very good deal too! The place is very quick to respond to anything broken and it has a 24/7 front desk. The gym is kind of small, but it is a 5 minute walk to Gold's or Sport and Health. Also, there is a farmer's market every Thursday afternoon with a 3 min walk. Lot's of dogs in the apartment so I don't think pets would be a problem.

A very solid apartment

The staff are always very helpful and the property is very clean. It is pet friendly, but all the dogs I've seen have all been very well behaved and I have never heard another apartment's pet (or person) from my apartment.

There is an outdoor pool and (small-ish) gym on site that are free to use and exclusively for residents.

There is an underground parking garage beneath the building. The spots are on the smaller side, so compact cars can be a bit easier to manage. I have never had an issue with getting a spot.

It is located very near to the Ballston mall (< .2 miles). Once the mall re-opens after its renovations, it will be a great place to go. There are currently plenty of restaurants and gyms in the surrounding areas as well. The metro is 2 blocks away.

I like it here

Overall I like living at Avalon Ballston Square. The location works well for me. Its a block from the Ballston Metro stop which makes coming and going very convenient. A few stores are nearby, making for convenient completion of errands. Sound isolation is okay. Doesn't really travel through floors but cant travel through some walls. Haven't really had any problems in general and would recommend. Only thing is there aren't too many restaurants nearby. You might have to go closer to Clarendon or elsewhere for more choices. Be aware though that people may throw parties which get noisy.

Not bad

No complaints right now. I wish the apartment was less expensive, though. Apartment is close to the metro and grocery store, which makes my life a lot easier. DC is better than Arlington for going out, but it's only a couple metro stops away.

Good price, responsive staff

Staff are professional and quick to respond to maintenance requests. There's a 24 hour concierge where you can claim packages.

Not the nicest of the luxury buildings, but it's clean and well kept.

Very standard Apt

A lot of space, good for pets, the front desk is very nice, the gym is pretty small but the equipment is enough for most workouts. The spaces aren't the newest, but everything in the building is well kept. Parking is kind of expensive ($60 first car, $175 second) and the spots are very narrow. The walls in my room are kind of thin (I can hear music from next door occassionally).

About Ballston

Living in the suburbs and still finding a vibrant city a few blocks away is what Ballston is all about. Reach the city with great ease, and find some great restaurants such as the Tutto Bene and the Caribbean Breeze, or maybe the Taste of Arlington Annual Street Fair. If that is not appealing enough...

Getting around Ballston

Ballston Reviews

49 reviews
I enjoy my neighbors and the common crowd around this area is young professionals it seems. We are close to george mason university and marymount college, so there is sometimes a younger crowd in the area as well. We do have some houses around the area that I have seen mainly have newly established families (i.e. little kids or new to the area) and I feel safe walking around my area at night.
I personally like being in Arlington. Everything is walkable and while it's not DC proper, it's very easy to get into the city via metro or a quick drive in. I've run to Georgetown in 20-30 minutes. There's stuff to do and there's everything you could need: gyms, grocery stores, shopping, restaurants, bars so close by. Ballston is a hub for transport so buses and the metro abound.
It can be a little noisy if you're too close to Wilson, Glebe or Fairfax roads, especially if you're right above the bus stop like I am, but nothing light background noise can't drown out; I sleep with a fan and I sleep like a baby. The public transport can't be beat, and it seems like a new restaurant opens every day. I'm interested in looking at houses in the area when I can afford to buy!
Ballston is by far one of the best areas of Arlington to live in. It has tons of access to bars, food, shopping, and a social scene, without being too loud of an area.
We are right across from Ballston Quarter which has a Union Market type of food court. The area is developing so quickly, very trendy and everything is within walking distance. Even though it's very walkable it does not feel as congested as DC.
I definitely feel that it's up and coming-- so much construction and many new restaurants and shops popping up! IT's very walkable. It's also pretty safe and it's close to highways, the Potomac, to DC, etc so the location is pretty great.
I love living in Ballston. I don’t have a car and never feel like I need one. Richmond Square is a block from the metro to take me into DC, and there are plenty of places to eat and things to do right here in Ballston.
Great spot for young people. There are tons of amazing restaurants and bars nearby that you can walk to. Also only a short metro ride to DC.
