Waldorf Towers

The place is ok. My unit is a bit old, but they're renovating new units and those look pretty good. Central AC in the summer is amazing. We don't pay for heat in the winter and live on the 7th floor so it is always extra warm in the winter. Front desk will sign packages for you. Management is getting better about responding to maintenance requests quickly. It is very close to campus (10-15min walk)

Ok

It's sufficient living. Parking underground is incredibly convenient especially during the wintertime.

The management can be really unresponsive at times, and the old white lady is really uncooperative.

Waldorf if you want to be close to school

The main (and perhaps only) advantage to living in Waldorf is how close to school you are. You can rush to school in 10 mins, but compared to the other apartments in the vicinity, it is definitely more expensive because you're close. Management is very slow (if they respond at all)

Only if you cannot find a place or you are in a hurry

Waldorf Towers is livable, but I will tell you it should NOT be your first choice. The administration has a reputation (rightfully deserved) of not being collaborative with their tenants, so you cannot expect repairs to be done on time. The apartments are old (most apartments are old around here anyway), but they are barely renovated. As a result, rent feels overpriced. You may be unlucky enough to have an apartment that is in desperate need of repairs, and they will not be thrilled to help you. Some common complaints include ceiling, plumbing, or leaks. From experience, your relationship with the administration depends on your interaction with them (less interaction = better relationship). If you have some emergency, they are often difficult to reach. There is a cleaning "fee", so you will probably get a fraction of your deposit. The gym is just a couple of treadmills, and the continental breakfast is donuts, stale bagels, coffee and tea. Laundry costs 1.99 (cheapest cycle), and the machines seem to be working just fine. Some nice things about the Waldorf include the proximity to the hospitals and the medical/dental schools (although this will change with the schools moving elsewhere) as well as the winter shuttle (you may or may not catch it. It is a courtesy, not a planned shuttle). Also, they can hold packages for you, so it is one of the few positives. Overall, if you are in a hurry or you have ran out of options, consider Waldorf Towers.

Does the job

Overall Waldorf does the job as a place to stay. Pretty good location and overall decent place. Maintenance problems can be slow and more common than you’d expect.

Pretty average

Waldorf is pretty average. The apartments are a bit old and most of them have something wrong/broken. Perks of living here are that there is a shuttle to the med school, law school, and CCF but only in the winter months and only for a few hours in the morning.

Only if you cannot find a place, or you are looking for a 2bd/2bth apartment

I would say it is manageable to live at Waldorf if you are looking for a 2 bedroom/ 2 bathroom apartment (These are not that common in Little Italy). The administration is not quick to fix problems with the property, and your relationship with them will depend on how much you have to communicate with them (i.e. less communication translates into a better relationship with them). These apartments are old, and they are barely "renovated." It is no surprise to hear that other tenants are having problems with their ceiling, , plumbing, or heating. The apartments have adequate central heating. They may or may not have problems with turning on the A/C over Summer (last Summer, they did have problems). Some of the perks of living here include having someone to hold your packages and covered parking. They have a winter shuttle that goes to the old dental and medical schools and the law school. Also, do not expect to get all of your deposit back (apparently there is some "cleaning fee"), but you may get most of it. Continental breakfast includes coffee, tea, or donuts or stale bagels.

Inexpensive but needs updating

One of the cheaper options close to the current CWRU Dental School. Offers free breakfast on weekdays with water and heating and air included with rent. However, the building is very old and needs updating.

Let's get real

Most apartments in Cleveland are old. You'll find molds and other unpleasant things, but at least they are quite affordable. Waldorf, just like most apartments, is a place for you to live and that's that. You won't enjoy living there and you don't really have to, as a student. Find a roommate and go for 2 br so it'll end up being around 600 a month, which isn't bad at all.
