It’s OK

Haven’t had many problems (think we got lucky). Many people we know have had problems with their units. Since the new dental/medical/nursing school is moving, it won’t be the best location anymore.

Happy Tenant

I have enjoyed living at Waldorf for 4 years. The building is safe and is about a 10-15 minute walk to school. There is a shuttle service that runs in the wintertime and it takes you directly to the dental school (free). The building has free breakfast Monday thru Friday which is convenient. Laundry is expensive (it is around $5 to wash and dry a load) and I have had my apartment flood twice. The maintenance man is ok, but not the best. The building signs for packages which is nice. My unit has a dishwasher and it’s the best!

Waldorf Towers Apartments Review

The managers aren't very nice but they get most stuff done eventually. I needed a fridge replaced at the beginning of the year, and they replaced a different apartment's fridge a floor below ours. Our refrigerator finally arrived about a month later.

Last Resort

This should be your last resort if you are attending CWRU and need to live close to the campus. They revamped their website but those pictures and renderings are complete bullshit to be honest. If you can help it do not choose to live here. Take it from the guy who is writing a review for the very first time. 1.) The managerial staff are all rude, patronizing, and unprofessional 2) The building is old and it really shows through my toilet not flushing when I moved in, the shower that broke and kept running, the uneven tiles in the shower, the kitchen sink that does not drain, yellowish brown water that comes out of the facet when you first turn them on, and the walls that allow water to seep in on a rainy day. On top of that maintenance is slow, although Chris, the maintenance guy, is relatively nice compared to the management. 3.) The walls also don't block out sound. The Pros that aren't all that great: 1.) Complementary breakfast are just hard ass bagels or donuts. 2) The gym is just a few treadmills in the laundry room that nobody uses. 3.) The walking distance isn't that long in the summer, there is a shortcut, but you have to walk longer, impossible to take the shortcut during winter, on a slope come winter. They have a shuttle, but that only starts January so watch out for yourself during Nov, Dec. The rest of this review are basically anecdotes in the off chance some of you wanted to read about me ranting about my bad experiences. Jennifer, one of the managerial staff there, has threatened to take my security deposit for moving packaged furniture through the front door, because it was not allowed in the lease. (who even reads that thing!) This was basically the first week I moved in and my parents were with me to help me buy and move furniture. (They came to attend my White Coat ceremony.) Additionally, they had mislabeled on of my pkgs from Amazon, which is okay as mistakes do happen. However, they were extremely rude when I went to go ask about it, as I received a notification from Amazon that it arrived two days ago. I was literally cut off mid-sentence and the elderly lady that works that they don't have it without even taking a look. After a while, She finally goes to look after I tell her that I need to at least get back to Amazon sighing with an annoyed expression the whole time. Turns out they had my pkg and I told her that I get that mistakes happen, but that she was extremely rude and patronizing towards me. She then apologizes which is well and good but when I go to receive another package later that day, I encounter Paul, who is the manager. He literally blames me for the incident and says that I am rude to his employee. He points to me and says, "Don't do that again." I am super pissed at this point but I ask to if he could hear me out from my point of view. He literally says no and goes towards his office. I ask to talk again and he says no. I find it ridiculous that he can get away with this stuff so I ask if I could reach out to the owner or higher up and he says no and tries to hid the fact that there are people that are higher up then him. I finally go through my lease agreement, thank God they used Docusign, and I found his email is associated with Paran management company, who, needless to say, I will be reaching out to about this event. Long story short, living here is insufferable.

Waldorf is good if your number one priority is to live close to school

Waldorf is an older building, but very convenient location-wise. Only takes 10 minutes to walk to school if you go through the path.

awesome property management

Property management has been helpful when necessary. A little slow on repairs/maintenance but this is due to there only being one maintenance man employed by the building. Building puts out coffee and bagels/doughnuts in the morning Monday to Friday. Laundry is in basement and is paid for with a re loadable card. There is also cardio equipment in the basement. Building also arranges a shuttle to campus in the morning during the winter.

Gets the job done

Pros: free surface lot parking and covered parking available, visitor parking, shuttle service to campus in the winter, very close to Case's campus, lots of students in the building, package service, central heating and A/C included in rent, storage space in the basement, breakfast in lobby on weekdays, 2 treadmills in basement
Cons: it's an old building and there's a decent amount of wear and tear, sometimes management can be a bit slow to respond, occasional leaks/ water issues in the bathroom, some ants in the warmer months (nothing unmanageable, but still there).

Sold building

This is a solid apartment building, but not great in several regards. Major caveat is I lived here for all four years of medical school (so clearly not awful). Pros: location! Can't beat it, amazingly convenient to be able to walk to the hospital and Little Italy, Coventry, Cedar-Fairmount and Dave's. Gas and water are included. Other students (law, medicine, business) live in the building, and the building is generally pretty student friendly. Management has had many medical students live in the building and are really familiar with the ins and outs of a the life of a medical student. Treadmills downstairs are not awful. Covered parking for a small monthly fee, but totally worth it. Relatively friendly management. Cons: this building is old, and in many cases quite dilapidated. There are frequent issues with leaks, broken heating, flooding that management is often times pretty slow to address. The inside looks visibly old, and dated. Inside apartments, depends on how recently the apartment has been updated, but faucets/bathrooms are antiquated/pretty rundown. Frequently leaks is a huge problem. There have been intermittent problems with rodents taking over the building, all though this has recently been resolved. When faced with concerns regarding the building, management can at times be pretty difficult to work with in the sense that they 1) do not respond in a timely fashion 2) cast aside pretty legitimate concerns. That being said, this could very well be because this building is quite old and really the maintenance is probably too much for their small staff.

The building is just getting older and older, so despite my pretty decent experience here, I would not recommend to other students unless you had a really compelling reason to. There are better apartments for the money up Overlook and in Little Italy.

Practical apartment option

I've lived in 2 different units in Waldorf Towers over 4 years. Its greatest strength is its convenient location for graduate and professional students at CWRU, which also makes it relatively popular. It is relatively spacious, has optional paid inside parking and free outdoor lot, and feels safe (security cameras, front office to receive packages). The management invests in upgrading aspects of the common areas each year, such as changing hallway lighting, upgrading lobby furniture, and replacing laundry machines. Another downside is that the management has done a surprisingly good job with pest control. Downsides are that the apartment building is old and maintenance is mediocre at best. It often feels like the minimum work is done. Many maintenance requests are ignored unless you follow-up frequently by phone. Overall, its location, social environment with many students, and parking were enough to keep me here as a student, but I am looking forward to "upgrading" to a nicer home during residency.
