Tons of space for not-so-much money

Great value for the space. Five minute drive to TSCHE, everyone gets their own bathroom and closet, common area is huge, appliances have worked well. A little isolated from the rest of the med school and one of the frats is here so it can get loud on Wednesdays, but overall, a great value.

Partners place review

Partners place is a condominium complex, but many of the complexes are rented on a yearly basis (that's what I do). The condos are spacious and extremely affordable. Just over walking distance from the med school campus, but easily bike-able and ~ a 5 minute drive. They are 3 bedroom, 3 bath with a dining room, reasonable kitchen, large living area, and sunroom that can be used as a guest room. The apartments feel safe; no known issues with stolen packages. The only downside is many undergrads live here, and it can get load Thursday-Saturday. This is well known, and cops patrol the area and shut down parties past 11pm.

You get what you pay for

Lots of loud frat parties until 11pm about 4 nights per week, and the walls are extremely thin.

Partner’s Place

Worked out really well for me, lots of space for an affordable price. Slightly further from school but still within biking distance and the bus stops right out front. Some cockroach problems in the summer but the landlords were very receptive and quick about getting a service in.

Partners place

It's not fancy. In fact, it's pretty low quality, but it's clean and quiet. It's close to groceries, stores and school, and it's really, really cheap for a lot of space. Because these are condos with individual owners and management companies, the experience will vary somewhat. Allenton is very responsive, and our unit was nicely cleaned with new paint and carpets before we moved in.

I really enjoy my apartment. The only downside is if you take LL to go to Fuqua, the bus goes in a loop before getting to Fuqua. However, from Fuqua to the apartment, it's only 3 stops away.

Getting around Erwin - LaSalle

Erwin - LaSalle Reviews

430 reviews
It's been perfectly fine. People are nice but it's not much of a community, just a place where people live. Behind the Belmont which had a spate of robberies a few months back, but the Flats is further away from the main road and is better lit. So far no security incidents or concerns at the Flats. Affordability depends on which apartment complex you choose in the Erwin-LaSalle area. Wide range in rents, ranging from very expensive to very affordable depending on which one you pick.
The broader neighborhood's chief attribute is convenience to Duke. A lot of students live in the apartment complexes around here. It can be inconvenient sometimes getting to a supermarket from the neighborhood, though (eventually they're going to re-open a Harris Teeter on Hillsborough, which should mitigate this issue somewhat).
The neighborhood was perfectly fine when I started living there, but recently there have been some armed robberies in apartment buildings that are about a 10 minute walk away. However, I would like to say that I have not felt unsafe walking home at night and the security at Trinity is quite high. For example, you have to use a special key to get into the lobby (where a security guard sits after dark) and then you have to use the key to get in from the lobby to where the rooms are, and then again to get into your room. There are about 10 good restaurants within walking distance ranging from greek food to Mexican food to sushi so it's great for a quick dinner when you don't want to cook. There is also a hair salon and a manicure place, as well as a Walgreens pharmacy. We are very close to Duke Hospital and the bus systems are very accessible.
The apartments are close to campus and easily accessible through bus, bike, or walking if desired. There is a nearby Kroger that is a less than 5 min drive away just up LaSalle St. Overall, there are some older apartments further up the road that have had issues with crime in the past, but The Heights and other apartments around the area seemed to be insulated from those issues.
The food in the area is really accessible and I feel quite safe in the surrounding area, excluding the gas stations and bus stop. I've heard some odd things at night but never seen anything fishy and feel safe coming home at night. +Tons of dogs!
Lofts is right next to a few restaurants - TGIFridays, Chipotle, Enzo's, Noodles, Smash Burger, Sushi Love, etc. The Kroger grocery store is just a few minutes away, off of Lasalle. This is a quiet neighborhood.
Quiet neighbourhood. Conveniently located to West Campus and walking distance to Fuqua. Easy and healthy fast food options nearby. Close to food stores e.g. Kroger & Harris Teeter. Close to WaDuke trail.
Not the safest neighborhood and has little transit. There have been issues at other apartment complexes with safety, but Heights has been very safe. It is absolutely fine to walk around in the day here, but not at night. There are not very many restaurants or bars nearby, although downtown Durham is 10 minutes away.
