First year review of Santa Monica at Federal

I really enjoy the apartment and location. It’s close to great restaurants and easy access to other parts of LA. The downsides, cell service black hole, packages are not secure and only 2 parking spots for three residents.

Great, standard property

I haven't had any issues at all with the apartment in general, with the sole exception that there is no one collecting packages and some delivery people won't go door-to-door so some packages have gotten stolen/gone missing.

Convenient location, kind of loud

Conveniently located, but loud as my windows face Santa Monica Ave. It's great for students, but I plan to move after graduation.

Reliable and Convenient!

Wiseman buildings are reliable and high quality, if a bit bland and cookie-cutter. You pay a bit of a premium for the convenience but it worked well for me and my roommates, all of whom moved to LA from across the country and were able to set everything up without actually visiting the complex.

Great spot, ok mgmt

Spacious apartment well insulated in top floor so doesn’t get too cold or hot ever. Elevator is a bit troublesome and they have run out of parking spots for building which are quite expensive. Additionally the maintenance request process is not too bad through the portal but my onboarding to join the lease with existing roommates was very annoying as Dee one of the property managers is quite scatterbrained and forgetful. Other than that tons of Anderson students in building and noise from Santa Monica Blvd doesn’t bother me.

Great Apartment

Living here has been great, good location good apartment. Nothing really to complain about, although there is some decent road noise from Santa Monica Blvd.

Responsive Management & Big Floor Plans

Wiseman isn't everyone's favorite, but management here is better than at some other Wisemans. I'm happy here because the places are pretty nice and clean and new-looking, plus our place is really big, and we don't pay that much, considering. Plus, 15 min drive to campus, can walk to Sundowners some weeks, and plenty of classmates live walkable from here.

Issues with pipes, laundry machine, blinds, etc.

Pros: looks nice on the outside, one bathroom per room, very nice bathrooms and covered parking available. Many neighbors are UCLA students so we get together and its fun

Cons:

Piping: two neighbors had floods, water just started coming out from the ceiling. Me? I enjoy a pipe tapping on my wall every time somebody flushed the toilet, I particularly enjoy it at 4am when I need to sleep.

Laundry Machine: smells bad, they wont replace it

Blinds: I gave up on opening the blinds in my room because every time one of them falls off. They will replace them, but after 3 replacements im done

Stolen packages: There is a 30% chance your mail will be stolen and Wiseman takes no responsibility.

Dirt: The halls in between apartments are exposed to the elements and color white. They are always full of dirt.

You won't be able to have friends over, because any semblance of noise and a security guard is standing on your door.

Stay away from this Wiseman.

Just Ok

Wiseman is sometimes responsive, and sometimes they are completely impossible to get ahold of. Very hit or miss. Building is not secure at all and very easy to gain access to. We've had a ton of packages get stolen during our time here, management seems uninterested in doing anything to solve the problem. Location is terrible, surrounding streets are always congested. Apartments look nice but are made with shoddy materials.

Sawtelle Reviews

Centrally located in West La. Close to Brentwood, Santa Monica, Westwood, Sawtelle, Culver.

A decent amount of homeless people but not at the Venice level.
Many Anderson and UCLA students around so never a dull moment. The area feels comfortable even at night. All of the worthy restaurants are on Sawtelle blvd which is great if you appreciate ramen. You will most likely branch out for more to do but it provides great proximity to UCLA and everywhere else
Probably most popular place for food in the west la area. Ramen, Japanese food, and dessert alley. Bit pricey but since it's upscale and popular, it feels safe at night. Close enough to school if you drive. Lots of students live in the area, but you'll need to uber to meet them or meet them at the restaurants.
Within a few blocks walking to the primary bars that Anderson events are held at. The neighborhood is fairly residential and quiet, but not too far from some good restaurants and bars in Brentwood and Santa Monica. The great thing is that so many classmates tend to live nearby. Less than 3 miles from the ocean at Santa Monica.
25 minutes driving to school in rush traffic. 15 minutes otherwise. Neighborhood is quiet and safe, but a range of bars, shops, restaurants, grocery stores, etc. are within walking and short driving/uber range. Bus and metro stops are both fairly close. Easy highway access to both the 405 and the 10. Price range is cheaper than Brentwood or Santa Monica.
Pros:
- Close drive to UCLA campus w/ easy access to 405
- Can pick up #1 bus from Santa Monica and Sawtelle bus to UCLA
- Given the area, street parking is not too difficult to find
- Easy walk to Sawtelle for food
- Rent is reasonable given the area
- Small complex with only 12 units so there's not too much noise
- Management is very responsive

Cons:
- Non-master bedrooms are pretty small and one of them has a stand-up shower (not a bathtub)
- Appliances and apartment doesn't feel very "modern" (though everything works)
Lots of good Asian restaurants and convenient grocery stores.
Lots of bars and restaurants nearby. Lots of other Anderson students within a mile radius. Quick drive to school (13-15min almost always). In-between Santa Monica Blvd and Wilshire so there are lots of bus options if you won't have a car.
