Decent place

Had a lot of trouble initially with the staff but eventually everything got sorted. It's a safe place. Just have to be watchful. Good bus connectivity and distance from campus.

Good Deal, iffy place

The complex is kinda rundown, they did just update the roofs and repaint the buildings, but not the safest neighborhood. I don’t walk by myself at night. However I can walk to class and the price is waaaay cheaper than other options. Great choice is you don’t have a car

Good value

Rent is cheap and it's 15 mins walking to Fuqua. Also there are 2 bus stops right outside the complex. Management is very attentive.

Great location. Quality is a 7/10 - nice but with some flaws, such as slow drains, poor airflow.

Convinient place

It is within walking distance of Sanford, and the Law and Business schools as well as the rest of West campus. It also affordable. If your priorities are budget and a convenient location, I highly recommend it.

Better than campus walk

Even though we faced a few issues with the management, chapel tower is a very convenient place to live in. There are 3 different buses that go to the University and to other important locations. The rent is on the cheaper side and the assistant manager, Brenda is extremely nice.

Good option for students

Overall fine experience. Good for students because of affordability and right across the street from Duke’s campus. Apartment interior is very nice- new kitchen appliances, W/D in unit. Apartment complex itself is a little sketchy but is kept safe.

It's been perfectly fine. People are nice but it's not much of a community, just a place where people live. Behind the Belmont which had a spate of robberies a few months back, but the Flats is further away from the main road and is better lit. So far no security incidents or concerns at the Flats. Affordability depends on which apartment complex you choose in the Erwin-LaSalle area. Wide range in rents, ranging from very expensive to very affordable depending on which one you pick.

The broader neighborhood's chief attribute is convenience to Duke. A lot of students live in the apartment complexes around here. It can be inconvenient sometimes getting to a supermarket from the neighborhood, though (eventually they're going to re-open a Harris Teeter on Hillsborough, which should mitigate this issue somewhat).

The neighborhood was perfectly fine when I started living there, but recently there have been some armed robberies in apartment buildings that are about a 10 minute walk away. However, I would like to say that I have not felt unsafe walking home at night and the security at Trinity is quite high. For example, you have to use a special key to get into the lobby (where a security guard sits after dark) and then you have to use the key to get in from the lobby to where the rooms are, and then again to get into your room. There are about 10 good restaurants within walking distance ranging from greek food to Mexican food to sushi so it's great for a quick dinner when you don't want to cook. There is also a hair salon and a manicure place, as well as a Walgreens pharmacy. We are very close to Duke Hospital and the bus systems are very accessible.

The apartments are close to campus and easily accessible through bus, bike, or walking if desired. There is a nearby Kroger that is a less than 5 min drive away just up LaSalle St. Overall, there are some older apartments further up the road that have had issues with crime in the past, but The Heights and other apartments around the area seemed to be insulated from those issues.

The food in the area is really accessible and I feel quite safe in the surrounding area, excluding the gas stations and bus stop. I've heard some odd things at night but never seen anything fishy and feel safe coming home at night. +Tons of dogs!

Lofts is right next to a few restaurants - TGIFridays, Chipotle, Enzo's, Noodles, Smash Burger, Sushi Love, etc. The Kroger grocery store is just a few minutes away, off of Lasalle. This is a quiet neighborhood.

Quiet neighbourhood. Conveniently located to West Campus and walking distance to Fuqua. Easy and healthy fast food options nearby. Close to food stores e.g. Kroger & Harris Teeter. Close to WaDuke trail.

Not the safest neighborhood and has little transit. There have been issues at other apartment complexes with safety, but Heights has been very safe. It is absolutely fine to walk around in the day here, but not at night. There are not very many restaurants or bars nearby, although downtown Durham is 10 minutes away.
