All around good but not amazing

Starting with a few negatives:
You wont get a community feel at this appartment. While there are a lot of graduate students living here everyones seperated with no central meeting place.
Bugs can be a problem. Even being on the upper floor you have to keep your place clean unless you want some bugs hanging out with you. If you do though they arent much of a problem at all.

Pros:
Great location right off duke campus. Easily within walking distance for all my classes.
Good student package options for utilities and rent. Most everything is included.
Cheaper than most other options around.
Neighbors are quiet and respectable. (in my experience)
Management has been understanding and kind. One of the only apartments that actually emailed and called me back when I was looking initially.

If you're looking for a great place to stay that looks really nice and has a community feel this isnt for you. If you want a place thats cheaper to stay at, dont mind outside looks like me, and just want a place that works at everything with no hassle then its for you.

Good place to stay when going to school at Duke West campus.

Calm locality with freshly renovated apartment units.
Located just next to Duke pond and has a bus stop at the main gate.
Responsive management that tends to issues and requests.
Has an indoor gym and a swimming pool (limited hours and summer only).
Armed security on duty 6 pm - 3 am.

Review of chapel tower

The location and build of the appartments are amazing. But the management is not responsive and will not respond to emails. They will promise you something and then not deliver on it later on.

Good Enough but you can live in better places

There is no security. The houses are not very spacious just decent. No street lights and getting out of here at night is very difficult. The community is not a safe place and I would not suggest living here.

Not the best but close to campus

This is a very average property with one of the only advantages being affordability and being close to campus.

While considering this property choose the Duke floor plan over the Carolina plan if sharing with housemates since it has an extra 0.5 bath. Additionally, make sure you are very clear with the management on your needs and requirements.

There is a factor of safety to consider around Morreene Rd, so being out, especially alone at night may not be a feasible situation.

Good so far

The apartment is spacious, the rooms are good size. The admin services are much faster than what they might appear from the email or phone conversations you might have had with the people here. The complex is safe and have security officer patrolling the premises. The rent is affordable but you have to make sure which apartment type you are going for and make sure you get the same one when you sign the lease. It might happen you want an apartment on the third floor but end up with an apartment in basement so take care of that.

Getting around Erwin - LaSalle

Erwin - LaSalle Reviews

430 reviews
It's been perfectly fine. People are nice but it's not much of a community, just a place where people live. Behind the Belmont which had a spate of robberies a few months back, but the Flats is further away from the main road and is better lit. So far no security incidents or concerns at the Flats. Affordability depends on which apartment complex you choose in the Erwin-LaSalle area. Wide range in rents, ranging from very expensive to very affordable depending on which one you pick.
The broader neighborhood's chief attribute is convenience to Duke. A lot of students live in the apartment complexes around here. It can be inconvenient sometimes getting to a supermarket from the neighborhood, though (eventually they're going to re-open a Harris Teeter on Hillsborough, which should mitigate this issue somewhat).
The neighborhood was perfectly fine when I started living there, but recently there have been some armed robberies in apartment buildings that are about a 10 minute walk away. However, I would like to say that I have not felt unsafe walking home at night and the security at Trinity is quite high. For example, you have to use a special key to get into the lobby (where a security guard sits after dark) and then you have to use the key to get in from the lobby to where the rooms are, and then again to get into your room. There are about 10 good restaurants within walking distance ranging from greek food to Mexican food to sushi so it's great for a quick dinner when you don't want to cook. There is also a hair salon and a manicure place, as well as a Walgreens pharmacy. We are very close to Duke Hospital and the bus systems are very accessible.
The apartments are close to campus and easily accessible through bus, bike, or walking if desired. There is a nearby Kroger that is a less than 5 min drive away just up LaSalle St. Overall, there are some older apartments further up the road that have had issues with crime in the past, but The Heights and other apartments around the area seemed to be insulated from those issues.
The food in the area is really accessible and I feel quite safe in the surrounding area, excluding the gas stations and bus stop. I've heard some odd things at night but never seen anything fishy and feel safe coming home at night. +Tons of dogs!
Lofts is right next to a few restaurants - TGIFridays, Chipotle, Enzo's, Noodles, Smash Burger, Sushi Love, etc. The Kroger grocery store is just a few minutes away, off of Lasalle. This is a quiet neighborhood.
Quiet neighbourhood. Conveniently located to West Campus and walking distance to Fuqua. Easy and healthy fast food options nearby. Close to food stores e.g. Kroger & Harris Teeter. Close to WaDuke trail.
Not the safest neighborhood and has little transit. There have been issues at other apartment complexes with safety, but Heights has been very safe. It is absolutely fine to walk around in the day here, but not at night. There are not very many restaurants or bars nearby, although downtown Durham is 10 minutes away.
