Getting around Kenwood

Hyde Park is extremely boring. I live here because the school is here and the commute is easy. There are very few good restaurants and no nightlife whatsoever. Luckily, getting downtown is cheap and easy. I've never felt unsafe during the daytime, but I certainly don't go walking around at night.
I enjoyed Hyde Park. Although I did try not to walk anywhere at night, I never had an experience that made me uncomfortable. I think Hyde Park has several very good restaurants and fun bars, and it has a nice community feel. I enjoyed living there!
It's a cute neighborhood, lots of young professionals, beautiful architecture, close proximity to school and super close to the city. Downside is few good food options and can get boring. But I love the free bus!
40 minute walk to campus, or buses that pick you up; nearby are: Whole Foods, Target, many restaurants and bars
I have not felt unsafe in the neighborhood, although I have done my best to avoid being out alone at night.
Restaurants and groceries close. Easy transport. Lots of other law students
I prefer the short commute to school to living somewhere I'd have to wake up earlier. But HP is a little quiet, so depends on what you're looking for. More restaurants and shopping options are being added really quickly right now so that's a pro (Whole Foods coming soon!) but it's definitely different than living in a neighborhood in/closer to the Loop.
Hyde Park is on the rise if you like gentrified, bougie neighborhoods. There are more fancy restaurants coming to the neighborhood as UChicago bought out 53rd street. It's a good neighborhood for a college experience but I am speaking as a formal student. It's unclear how non-university affiliated folks feel about the changes as there is sadly not much interaction between the University and the rest of the community.
