Not Bad, All Things Considered

2400 Penn, in my opinion, is a great location near the law school. It is only about a 10-12 minute walk from the front steps to the law school. It really comes in handy as I chose to leave my car behind back home instead of bringing it here. If you were to bring your car, it is about an extra 250/month for parking. With that being said, I also chose this location because it is very near to the Foggy Bottom/GWU metro stop. As someone who has lived in DC before, you can get to plenty of places just using the metro. Also, there is a bus stop (DC Circulator and MetroBus) in front of the apartment that can take you places if need be

It is an older building, however, management has done an amazing job as far as upkeep goes. I am in a recently-renovated studio with hardwood floors and I am well-impressed by the size of it. Of course, being in DC means you are going to pay a pretty penny for rent and it is what it is, but rent here is on the lower end compared to apartments in Foggy Bottom and in the rest of DC. You will find some cheaper apartments or apartments around the same price range near the school, but I believe that this is the best of the bunch.

If you are someone that is social, you will be out of luck in Foggy Bottom because there isn't really any nightlife. Good news, however, is that it is not that far of a walk from Dupont Circle, which has a great mix of restaurants and nightlife.

There is no gym here, so either you'll have to use the school's gym or get a membership at a gym nearby. I chose the latter.

One thing I should stress is that the apartments are near a hospital, meaning that you will hear ambulances going in and out all the time. For someone who is a hard sleeper, I've been woken up before, but it's few and far between with occurrences. However, if you're a light sleeper or have trouble concentrating with many outside noises, take that into consideration before you move here.

I find management easy to work with. They've been very responsive to my maintenance requests and the process of putting one in is very easy. As this is my very first apartment that's not considered student housing, the management here was very welcoming ever since I toured the place the summer before my first year here. They walked me through the process and were nothing but patient and kind throughout the whole thing.

All in all, I cannot complain living here. When looking at apartments, I wanted to pick a place where I can envision staying all three years of law school because I do not want to go through the process of moving again while in school and I think I found a great spot in 2400 Penn.

2400 Pennsylvania Avenue

9 am - 5 pm concierge; maintenance man lives on premises and is super nice/responsive; concierge is very personable and easy-going; no gym; incredible location - on the corner of K St. and Pennsylvania Ave.; 5 min walk to Trader Joe's and Whole Foods; really nice roof-top view; no noise issues; units don't all have the most luxurious amenities but are clean (and nice enough for me); Foggy Bottom metro stop 5 min away; 10-15 min walk to GW campus; key fob access only, so the building is relatively safe; parking for around $250/month; no significant issues thus far

No Frills - close to GW

Building is no frills. No issues with bugs or anything bad. Apartment issues are addressed by maintenance within 24 hours. Good place to live if you want to be close and live alone.

2400 Penn is great!

2400 Penn is close to GW, which means that it's super convenient for me since I don't have to rely on public transportation, I just walk to school every morning. There is a Trader Joe's about a block away and a Whole Foods a 5-7 minute walk away. The metro is a 5 minute walk from the apartment building and there are several bus stops located right in front or behind the apartment building. It's in a great place to get anywhere you need to go in the city. For nightlife and restaurants, it is located just a 15-20 minute walk to either Georgetown or Dupont Circle and there are a few restaurants nearby as well that have great food! It's an amazing area to live in, especially as a GW student and I highly recommend it!

Great place to live

Living in DC is expensive anywhere so that is the only thing I do not like about where I live. I love the building and its proximity to school, grocery stores, convenience stores, pharmacies etc. As well as it's proximity to other neighborhoods where there are restaurants and amenities such as Georgetown and DuPont Circle. It really is the perfect location for a GW Law student, just a ten minute walk away from the law school and 5 minutes away from the Foggy Bottom metro. There is also a bus stop directly in front of the building. This building is extremely accessible and is super convenient to live in. I am happy with my apartment, the common spaces are clean, and the laundry is never full so you can do laundry whenever you feel like it. Management is also super nice and take care of problems quickly. They do NOT accept pets however, so if you have a pet this is not the place for you. Other than that it's a great place!

West End Reviews

West End is fine. It's safe, there's easy access to transportation and plenty of supermarkets. But it's boring as anything - a neighborhood of hotels and office buildings. It's also overly pricey without really giving you much in return. As someone who had to move to DC on short notice - I picked West End based on location and little else - and I mostly came out of my time living here wishing I had done more research before signing my lease.
Safe neighborhood, great transportation hub with multiple bus stops less than a minute's walk from the apartment and a 5 minute walk to the metro. Some restaurants and bars nearby as well. Ten minute (at most!) walk to GW campus! My only gripe is that it's an expensive neighborhood but the apartment is competitively priced for the area.
The neighborhood is perfect. Ten minute walk to school, five minute walk to the metro. CVS and Walgreens just ten minutes away, trader joes just 3 minutes away, Whole Foods ten minutes away. There is a bus stop with a bunch of bus routes directly in front of the building. This neighborhood is also close to a bunch of other great neighborhoods, just a 20 minute walk to DuPont Circle and Georgetown where there are restaurants, bars, and stores. The monuments (the Lincoln) are only a 25 minute walk down 23rd street. There are numerous gyms nearby and the school gym is only a ten minute walk from the apartment. The area is probably the safest in the city and there is not a lot of noise over the normal city noise. It is next to the GW Hospital so ambulances going by can be annoying but not overly so. This neighborhood is great and close to every amenity.
I like the west end library and the l Trader Joe’s but other than that it is a little quiet and mostly filled with hotels. There aren’t very many food options either. It’s a close walk to Georgetown which is nice.
This neighborhood has everything a millennial needs - a CVS, Soulcycle, Sweetgreen, and great bars/restaurants. Highly recommend because it's quiet and really close to DuPont Circle and the GW Metro.
ONE BLOCK FROM TRADER JOES!! 5 min to Georgetown, 10 min to Dupont, 8 minute bike ride to campus. Bars & restaurants. Across the street from the dog park.
Hard to beat the Foggy Bottom area. Safe and close to everything you would need to be productive and have a great med school experience.
Some of the neighbors are great. It gets pretty dead very early here. There have been a few instances of intruders in the building.
