Excellent Apartment

The Claridge is a great building located right on the corner of Rittenhouse Square. The apartments are very spacious and a great value. In addition, most of them have been updated recently. The bus stop to Wharton is right outside, otherwise, it is about a 25 minute walk to Huntsman. There is a business printer available for free to print course packs and notes, you just need paper. In addition, there is a small gym in the building with some treadmills and weights. Laundry is available on every floor, with a large laundry room on the 3rd floor. They also have a deal with a local dry cleaner that picks up/drops off right in the Claridge.

Rittenhouse Claridge - great location, good apartment, reasonable price for 3 bedroom

Great location, love the apartment, a lot of Wharton tenants makes it very friendly and conveniant. Management generally responds quickly to maintenance requests.

Make sure you get a renovated unit

My building is just okay. It is supposed to be a good deal because location is good and utilities are included, but the studios are small and I think one can get a better deal shopping around. The building sells itself as upscale but isn't. The way some front desk personnel address residents is not upscale. As of the apartment, the appliances are old andor cheap, and the apartment is noisy (I am on a 26th floor on Walnut and 18th facing Walnut). The people in maintenance are kind, though.

Decent building with reasonable rent but unfriendly management

The apartment is central but noisy since it's facing the Walnut street. However, the rent is reasonable given the good location. The lease office is very unfriendly.

Great building in the heart of Rittenhouse Square

Excellent location, right in the heart of Rittenhouse Square and close to bus to school. Spacious apartment with ample light, windows in both rooms and living room allowing for excellent sunlight. Doorman in lobby, cozy gym. Utilities included in rent. Good balance of Wharton and local folks in building.

Spacious floorplans that are great for roommates!

Great location! The staff is very responsive and there is a small gym in the building. The 2 bedroom apartments are huge and great for roommates. There are a lot of other students in the building--the only downside is that there is no lounge for group meetings, but the living space is certainly large enough to have people over.

The Claridge was a great choice

The Claridge's location is just perfect, 1min from the bus stop to school, on the Park and in the middle of center city. The building is ok, not too fancy and kind of old for a high-rise but ok. There is a large range of apartments and prices, depending on the size, view and floor. Leasing office is not very responsive in Spring, don't panic if you are trying to do things in advance, they are just slow. Views on the park are amazing if you have a high floor apartment facing the park. We are on the 23rd, and are not bothered by the street noise. Staff is ok, bike garage in the basement. Free printing in business center (bring your paper). Problems: Our main problem has been the temperature control - either too warm or too cold, hard to get a sound in-between, which was problematic for our baby born in October (winter is Cooooolllld). You can hear neighbors a little, but it's ok. No meeting room for group work.

Rittenhouse Square Reviews

Walnut street is very safe - there's always people around and it's well lit. The neighborhood includes all of the fun aspects of living in Philadelphia - tons of access to food and bars, nearby grocery stores/markets, access to the parks and the Schuylkill River Trail
Very close to fun restaurants/bars/shops. Close to the subway as well as the train station (suburban station).
Rittenhouse is the safest part of Philly. It's a very "happening" part of town—lots of restaurants and bars on every street. At the same time, it's right next to more residential neighborhoods to walk around in and explore. It's a great place to live relatively close to the law school but with a degree of separation so as not to get trapped in the law school bubble.
The neighborhood is both quiet and lively. There is so much around, but I have never had an issue sleeping or studying because there is too much noise. The broad street line is a 10-15 minute walk away and we are close to shopping, food, the park, and the river trail. Has everything within a 10-15 walk.
This neighborhood has everything I need within walking distance. Shops, grocery stores, parks, the subway and trolley, post office. You name it. It's very safe and extremely quiet, which helps when I'm trying to study. The Rittenhouse Square area is really the best place to live in Philly if you don't mind paying a little more.
I love this neighborhood and knew I wanted to live here when beginning my apartment search. The park is one of my favorite places in the city, and I love being able to easily access all the restaurants and shopping nearby. It's also an easy (~20 minute) walk to Penn Law, and the walking commute has always been a nice and peaceful part of my day.

Spruce Street in particular is great - it's a little south of the square, so is quieter/shielded from a lot of the traffic that the neighborhood gets, but it's not out of the way or far away. There's a Starbucks, a grocery store (Rittenhouse Market), and a few corner stores (Four Seasons and Food & Friends) within a 2-3 minute walk of my apartment.
Love the neighborhood, Rittenhouse Square is beautiful and we are so close to the more commercial areas like Walnut Street while not being in the center of the craziness. Plus we are within walking distance of public transportation including 10 minutes from the 15/16 street PATCO station. I personally think it is one of the best areas of Philly to live in.
Rittenhouse Square has a park in the center surrounded by a bookstores, restaurants, and a public library. It is open to pets and often has open art / food markets on the weekends. It is close to the Broad Street Line and PATCO. There are many families who live in the area. It is affordable compared to other major cities (NYC, DC, Boston), but there are certainly more affordable areas in Philadelphia, simply without the luxury of being so close to Center City.
