Great location, old building needing renovations.

I love the location, I love the building staff– they always go out of their way to make you feel welcome, I love the security, and how dog friendly it is... but the interior of the units themselves could use a remodel. Some units are very old, with kitchens that haven’t been touched in at least 30 years.

Great apartments

These apartments are great for anyone that wants to live in the best neighborhood in the city. Best lake views, amazing rooftop, nice residents and good management. Elevators are recently upgraded and the building is pet friendly. There is also a convenience store in the building.

Quiet

Awesome view, quiet neighborhood. The sound proofing is not great, you can hear the upstairs neighbors pretty well. Pet friendly and amazing views. The space is small for the price but it's worth it for the view. Covered parking is not available, so you have to find street parking, which is difficult sometimes. Close to public transit if you don't drive.

Gorgeous Lake Views

Very close to Lake Michigan, and awesome views with units that face the lake. Older building, but clean.
The building is a bit far from public transportation, so that is slightly negative.
Overall, great place to live for younger folk, not so great for families.

Great Location, horrible landlord

The location can't be beat, and it's super super dog friendly. The roof is awesome in the summer, and while the gym isn't too big, it has all the basic equipment you need.

This building is all condos, but there are several landlords/companies that own and manage multiple units. I started out renting a studio unit from a landlord with only one unit. They were awesome. When I moved to a larger unit, I signed a lease with Recon Properites, LLC, which is owned by Michael Arrington. I had heard a lot of negative things about leasing from him (you always hear people talking about Arrington around the building), but I liked the new unit, so I went for it. This was "vintage," aka 100% original, no updates at all. It was originally $1265 for a one bedroom, which I thought was fair for the area. When it came time to renew, we negotiated a rent increase--$1325--with some repairs around the unit (the fridge and stove really needed replacement, some other small things), and the company was very easy to work with. When time came to renew for a third year, the requested rent increase was, in my opinion, not worth staying any longer. I believe it was 1375-1400? So we decided to part ways. That was all very smooth with Recon Properites and the building management. Some very nasty things happened once we left the unit that I'm unable to publicly disclose...we ended up agreeing to sign a document in exchange for partial refund of our rent. To be clear--Arrington had a lawyer draft an agreement because he knew he did something wrong, so he needed to cover himself. It wasn't worth it to us to fight it in court, so we agreed to the terms.

So in summary: great location, perfect for dog lovers, but be careful which owner you sign a lease with.

Great Unit and Good Buiilding

The unit is wonderful and a great value in a prime location. Very safe and friendly building. The building has had some issues with the elevators but hopefully all has been resolved.

Location can't be beat

The building itself is old and kinda creepy. A lot of older people and rich college kids live there so it's a strange mix. There is a convenience store in the bottom that is very convenient and a small gym complex that is clean and usable. My unit looks out onto the lake and the view can't be beat. The location is also awesome. It's easy to walk downtown, to restaurants in river north or to get west, south or north.

My house

I have been living in this condo for about 5 years.
The management is very reasonable but I would like to see them be more attentive.
It is a great location and great price.
The views are magnificent and the roof deck is a big hit.
Laundry services are great and the storage room is big enough for your bike and other things.

Great Building

1400 N Lake Shore is a beautiful historic building. It was originally built by the Wrigley family as a hotel and then changed into a condo building. Some of the units still need some updating. There is no central air in the units (I have a window AC). My kitchen needs some updating but with the price, I am very happy with it! I love the location. We have a beautiful roof top that is a great place to watch the fireworks. All the staff is very friendly and so are the neighbors. It is a pet friendly building so if you don't like dogs, it's not the right place for you. The walls are very thick, I never hear anything when I am in my condo. It's a great place to live for the price!

Gold Coast is the best neighborhood to me at. Perfect location, right down town with tons to do!
I absolutely love living in this area. You can't beat having the lake on one side and million dollar homes on the other. It's also so convenient to get to work - I hop on the 151 which picks up right outside of the building and goes straight down Michigan ave within 2 blocks of my office. You're also close enough to bars/restaurants in Old Town and Clark/Division but far enough away to avoid all the noise and people.
Elm Street has plenty of walk-ups and has a nice neighborhood feel to it although it's only a couple minutes walk from the Mag mile. Close to plenty of good restaurants and fun bars of Gold Coast/Old Town
The neighborhood is really active with shops, restaurants, bars, and gyms all within a mile radius. The night life is really convenient being so close to division and wells street.
Extremely dog friendly. 2 blocks to Oak St or North Ave beaches. Half hour walk to LP zoo, 15 min to Mag Mile. Beautiful landscaping all around. Can't be beat.
The Gold Coast is definitely and expensive neighborhood. While there are many expensive restaurants, bars, and shops, it is a great, central location.
Great neighborhood. Best in the city! Super close to Jewel and the el. You can walk to the loop or old town if you want to go out.
Amazing people, gorgeous views, and close to everything. Gold Coast is my favorite Chicago neighborhood to live in.
