Great value, 5 min walk to UCI

Really close to campus (5 min walk), very cheap and student friendly, neighbors are all grad students (some with families), the apartments were some of the first buildings at UCI so they're a little old but the value is great

Convenient

On-compus housing at Verano place is quit convenient especially for family with kids since the Children's Center is just behind the housing office.

Easy and affordable

Verano is incredibly convenient -- right across the street from the law school. I feel my rent is very affordable for the area. Although my unit is a little old and occasionally requires repairs, the staff are friendly and helpful. I also appreciate having on-site laundry and utilities including internet. Verano is also very safe and quiet with pretty trees, which I enjoy.

Old Verano Beware

No AC, no dishwasher, no ability to see the apartment before move in. Lots of ants upon move-in and for weeks thereafter. Not family friendly apartment due to inability to childproof many features including keeping children from leaving via front door, the handle of which would automatically unlock the deadbolt. Not even as nice as the mediocre apartments I lived in during UG. It's liveable but I would only do it to save money.

Hard to beat that cheap rent

The rent is cheap, and that is the best thing about the place. The unit is very old and there is some understandable wear and tear on the appliances and cupboards in the kitchen and bathroom, but nothing unreasonable.

I would say that parking is included in the rent, but this is not entirely true. If you wish to sublet your apartment during the summer and you wish to allow the subtenant to receive parking permission, Verano requires that you as the primary tenant also have parking permission. In order to receive parking permission, you have to show proof of vehicle registration and insurance. Therefore, if you do not have car insurance, your subtenant cannot benefit from the "free parking".

Verano is also not flexible with move-in date and will determine the move-in date based on its preference, not yours. This is not a student-friendly policy and should be changed since Verano Place residents are students.

The above issues are nice examples of the small unpleasantries of living at Verano Place, but again, it's hard to beat that cheap rent.

Affordable Campus Housing

Verano Place, and all campus housing, is much cheaper than you will find anywhere close to campus, with the exception of pockets in Santa Ana. Verano Place is very quiet and kept clean. Though there is occasional noise, there has never been a problem. The biggest issues that we have had are a few quick plumbing fixes with the kitchen sink and raccoons living on the roof and walking in front of the apartment. Laundry and trash are convenient. Fire Alarms get checked once a year. Other than that, no maintenance has ever needed into our unit. It is a 5 minute walk to campus, a 5 minute walk to the gym, and a 10 minute walk to the grocery store.
