As convenient as you can get

Pros: 20-minute leisurely walk to class, locked garage parking, great amenities (24-hour gym, free fitness classes, on-site movie theater, 2 outdoor pools, grills and fire pit, 24-hour complementary coffee/tea/cocoa, organized social events, guest suite can be reserved 2 nights per month, reservable areas for social/work events, package service), quiet, helpful front office

Cons: the student loan budget does not cover rent for a one-bedroom (need supplemental income), maintenance can be a bit slow and lazy, need a dehumidifier in bathroom 6 months out of the year, some pet owners fail to clean up after their pets (including in the hallways, so watch out)

Lovely apartments

I really love the Lofts at Lakeview. I was initially skeptical because it is more popular to live at S9/B9 but as someone who likes to "get away from it all", it has been great. The apartments are super quiet and it turns out there is a solid Fuqua presence so I've found people to study with. It is also walking distance from Fuqua.

Some things to know: The apartments themselves are really beautiful (probably one of the nicer ones you will see in Durham). The business center is not great--the computers are old and slow and it is nearly impossible to use the printer as a result. I don't see that changing any time soon. However, the facilities in general are really nice and management is very responsive to repair requests. If it matters to anyone, you can also request to have the color of your "accent" wall changed so there is some room for personalization. Also, since it is "loft" style, the one bedrooms don't have doors on the bedroom. It is an open floor plan. 2+ bedrooms have doors on the bedrooms.

Great apartments very close to fuqua

The apartments are very nice, the staff is very friendly, and you can't be any closer to Fuqua.

Close to campus, very spacious apartment, and nice amenities

Lofts at Lakeview is a terrific option if you would like to live within walking distance (15 minute walk) from Fuqua. The apartments are incredibly spacious, with double vanity bathrooms, huge walk-in closets, new appliances, and friendly staff.

Perfect apartment, Perfect location.

Lofts apartments have the little amenities that others don't: a separate glass shower, large walk-in closets, water dispenser on the fridge, etc. It just feels nicer. The common areas are great and never too busy. You literally can't beat the location as it's only 1mi from Fuqua. I considered all local apartments and Lofts is easily the best of all worlds.

Lofts at Lakeview - Married Couple

My wife and I enjoy living at the Lofts for a variety of reason.
The location is walkable and bikeable to Fuqua and being a 1 car couple allows me to not need a car to get to and from school. There are plenty of great food (chain and local) options right near by as well.

There are no undergraduate students in the building and it is mostly graduate students and hospital professionals who live there - its quiet.

The fitness center is pretty good for an apartment complex and is open 24/7. Staff is easy to work with and for the price we feel like we are getting good value (location, community, amenities).

Last thing, the big screen theater room is amazing and great for movies and sporting events.

Better than expected

I was hesitant to choose Lofts because it is not in keeping with the Station 9/Berkshire 9 trend and I thought I would regret not being near my classmates. The Lofts is the nicest apartment I've ever lived in with an indoor garage and same level parking. There is a good number of other Fuquans living here. There are several Fuquans here who I have become friends with and have also studied with.

If you want a high social level, this isn't the place for you. For me, I find it is the perfect getaway with social options if I really want.

The Lofts is also extremely quiet; I've virtually never hear other noise.

The biggest annoyance is the business management center is essentially not functional. The computers are extremely slow and therefore it's really difficult to use the printer (it's not wireless).

Great if you want somewhere quiet & close to campus

Fairly pleased with my experience at Lofts. When the weather's nice, it's an easy walk to campus, and if you have a car it's a quick drive (or Uber, otherwise) to the 9th Street area. Large, spacious rooms (though it's important to look at the floor plan closely - we almost got a bedroom that didn't have a door!) with plenty of sun on the lake side of the building, easy to find parking, decent amenities, and a good responsive management. Worth it to ask about deals, we were able to get two months free rent when we first moved in.

Getting around Erwin - LaSalle

Erwin - LaSalle Reviews

430 reviews
It's been perfectly fine. People are nice but it's not much of a community, just a place where people live. Behind the Belmont which had a spate of robberies a few months back, but the Flats is further away from the main road and is better lit. So far no security incidents or concerns at the Flats. Affordability depends on which apartment complex you choose in the Erwin-LaSalle area. Wide range in rents, ranging from very expensive to very affordable depending on which one you pick.
The broader neighborhood's chief attribute is convenience to Duke. A lot of students live in the apartment complexes around here. It can be inconvenient sometimes getting to a supermarket from the neighborhood, though (eventually they're going to re-open a Harris Teeter on Hillsborough, which should mitigate this issue somewhat).
The neighborhood was perfectly fine when I started living there, but recently there have been some armed robberies in apartment buildings that are about a 10 minute walk away. However, I would like to say that I have not felt unsafe walking home at night and the security at Trinity is quite high. For example, you have to use a special key to get into the lobby (where a security guard sits after dark) and then you have to use the key to get in from the lobby to where the rooms are, and then again to get into your room. There are about 10 good restaurants within walking distance ranging from greek food to Mexican food to sushi so it's great for a quick dinner when you don't want to cook. There is also a hair salon and a manicure place, as well as a Walgreens pharmacy. We are very close to Duke Hospital and the bus systems are very accessible.
The apartments are close to campus and easily accessible through bus, bike, or walking if desired. There is a nearby Kroger that is a less than 5 min drive away just up LaSalle St. Overall, there are some older apartments further up the road that have had issues with crime in the past, but The Heights and other apartments around the area seemed to be insulated from those issues.
The food in the area is really accessible and I feel quite safe in the surrounding area, excluding the gas stations and bus stop. I've heard some odd things at night but never seen anything fishy and feel safe coming home at night. +Tons of dogs!
Lofts is right next to a few restaurants - TGIFridays, Chipotle, Enzo's, Noodles, Smash Burger, Sushi Love, etc. The Kroger grocery store is just a few minutes away, off of Lasalle. This is a quiet neighborhood.
Quiet neighbourhood. Conveniently located to West Campus and walking distance to Fuqua. Easy and healthy fast food options nearby. Close to food stores e.g. Kroger & Harris Teeter. Close to WaDuke trail.
Not the safest neighborhood and has little transit. There have been issues at other apartment complexes with safety, but Heights has been very safe. It is absolutely fine to walk around in the day here, but not at night. There are not very many restaurants or bars nearby, although downtown Durham is 10 minutes away.
