East Cesar Chavez

A Slice of Original Austin Character
East Cesar Chavez is a wonderful neighborhood born out of great Austin roots. César Chávez Street is historically a Latino community and is a perfect example of a neighborhood exuding a bit of Austin’s original personality. Cesar Chavez offers a nice blend of urban living, packed nightlife, and natural scenery. Towards 6th Street in the north, residents enjoy dining and entertainment options. Towards the south near Lady Bird Lake, residents enjoy an abundance of beautiful trees and scenery. The proximity to the lake and parks provides great spots for peaceful strolls or exercise. Parks nearby include Comal Pocket Park, Pan American Neighborhood Park, and Metz Neighborhood Park.

True to the great Austin tradition, East Cesar Chavez offers live-music rooms. Some of these include Hotel Vegas, The White Horse, and The Volstead. East Cesar Chavez also has trendy eateries to grab a quick bite with friends. Juan in a Million, on East Cesar Chavez street, appeared on the Travel Channel for their overflowing Don Juan Breakfast Taco Record Challenge. Other dining options include Cenote, an all day French-styled cafe, Revelry Kitchen & Bar, a great place for happy hour, and Hi Hat Public House, a highly-rated pub grub the residents love to attend. Residents love the local yet famous food truck - Veracruz All Natural Food Truck. East Cesar Chavez is a perfect neighborhood for people who want to experience original Austin character, natural scenery, and plenty of entertainment options.

East Cesar Chavez — 6.4/10 Rating (based on 7 neighborhood reviews)
Tons of great restaurants, bars, coffee shops, breweries, etc. and many other people in their late 20s/early 30s.

Both a pro and a con, depending on your perspective, is that the area is in the midst of a textbook case of gentrification. New hipster places are intermingled with decades old minority owned business.

A few blocks in either direction there are some areas that may feel less safe with low income housing, homeless, etc. Some streets definitely feel sketchier than others and crime still occurs in certain areas. The direct area around the building feels very safe with lots of people and businesses. Development on the east side is happening rapidly and a number of new mid and high rise developments are being constructed which will continue to change the neighborhood.

Love it. Amazing food at pretty good price points and tons of bars to fit whatever you're looking for. Close to downtown, close to school, and close to HEB and Whole Foods. Can't recommend this area enough.

East Austin is fantastic. The best bars and restaurants are all in East Austin. Couldn't imagine living anywhere else. Also close to a few great bus lines (4 goes East and West) and the 100 (Airport - UT shuttle) is also nearby.

The neighborhood has a homeless problem, but it isn't on my street and is a few blocks away. The only time I really deal with it is when I'm walking to/from Rainy. However I'm a large male and I haven't ever felt threatened by them.
