Belmont Apartments are great!

Ideal for international students without cars since it is walking distance to school and the bus stop is right across the street. It is affordable and generally decent quality.
The apartments are room-y and washer/dryer are in the apartments.

High value, family-oriented

Great value and near Fuqua but not many other Fuquans live here.

Great for families.

Quiet, comfortable apartment close to campus

Living at the Belmont is very convenient as a Fuqua student. The complex is slightly older than the newer apartment complexes nearby (Lofts, Trinity, etc.) but is a much better price, similar amenities, and more comfortable apartment. I am a pet owner and the patio and space is great for a cat or small dog. They've had issues with security in the past, but you can set up an alarm system in each apartment and I haven't felt unsafe while living here. I chose this place for the price, 15 minute walk to campus, and comfort - all of these needs have been met!

Comfortable living, pet friendly, lovely grounds

The complex is lovely, with well maintained gardens, track around the lake, and grills for public use. The pool, main club house, gym, squash court and wifi room are well maintained and suitable. The maintenance team respond, and have fixed, all apartment issues within 24 hours. The apartments are quaint though don't expect nice finishes: the socket wall brackets (for electricity plugs) regularly fall off the walls, the walls and doors have been painted so many times that the paint will come off in chunks, and no care has been taken with the accuracy of the paint job (particularly the inside of storage cupboards where there is no paint job!). The convenient location, being an easy walk to Duke Campus, including Fuqua, Law, Sanford & Nicholas, makes this a great location. Also a very quiet community and neighbours. Not for those who want to live with, and have strong social connections to, their neighbours.

Great for Fuqua students

We lived in the back of the Belmont complex (by the gate) - which is convenient to walk to Fuqua (and get picked up by Uber along the back road). It's quiet, clean, and the management is very responsive to requests. Our one bedroom apartment was perfect for the amount we spent - and we had plenty of storage. An extra garage is only $50 per month.

Also, there's a beautiful lake on the complex and an updated gym. Mostly, I just like being on the bus line and close to Fuqua.

Perfect for budget-conscious pet owners who want to walk to school

The Belmont has great proximity to Fuqua and a small collection of fast food, as well as a cluster of students who live in the surrounding buildings (Lofts, Trinity, Heights). We chose it for the large pond for walking our dog, and it has been great. Management is okay, and maintenance is responsive and generally quick. There are probably more undergraduate seniors here than other buildings, but there are also a lot of graduate students and people who work at the nearby hospital - we haven't experienced a noise problem at all on the top floor. It's great to have a real balcony and such a low cost per square foot, but they make up for it by having fewer amenities. If you don't want to pay for things you won't use that much, this is a great spot. Plus, you can afford the $5 Uber ride to S9 where all of your friends will be, because of all of the money you'll save in rent and parking passes.

Getting around Erwin - LaSalle

Erwin - LaSalle Reviews

It's been perfectly fine. People are nice but it's not much of a community, just a place where people live. Behind the Belmont which had a spate of robberies a few months back, but the Flats is further away from the main road and is better lit. So far no security incidents or concerns at the Flats. Affordability depends on which apartment complex you choose in the Erwin-LaSalle area. Wide range in rents, ranging from very expensive to very affordable depending on which one you pick.
The broader neighborhood's chief attribute is convenience to Duke. A lot of students live in the apartment complexes around here. It can be inconvenient sometimes getting to a supermarket from the neighborhood, though (eventually they're going to re-open a Harris Teeter on Hillsborough, which should mitigate this issue somewhat).
The neighborhood was perfectly fine when I started living there, but recently there have been some armed robberies in apartment buildings that are about a 10 minute walk away. However, I would like to say that I have not felt unsafe walking home at night and the security at Trinity is quite high. For example, you have to use a special key to get into the lobby (where a security guard sits after dark) and then you have to use the key to get in from the lobby to where the rooms are, and then again to get into your room. There are about 10 good restaurants within walking distance ranging from greek food to Mexican food to sushi so it's great for a quick dinner when you don't want to cook. There is also a hair salon and a manicure place, as well as a Walgreens pharmacy. We are very close to Duke Hospital and the bus systems are very accessible.
The apartments are close to campus and easily accessible through bus, bike, or walking if desired. There is a nearby Kroger that is a less than 5 min drive away just up LaSalle St. Overall, there are some older apartments further up the road that have had issues with crime in the past, but The Heights and other apartments around the area seemed to be insulated from those issues.
The food in the area is really accessible and I feel quite safe in the surrounding area, excluding the gas stations and bus stop. I've heard some odd things at night but never seen anything fishy and feel safe coming home at night. +Tons of dogs!
Lofts is right next to a few restaurants - TGIFridays, Chipotle, Enzo's, Noodles, Smash Burger, Sushi Love, etc. The Kroger grocery store is just a few minutes away, off of Lasalle. This is a quiet neighborhood.
Quiet neighbourhood. Conveniently located to West Campus and walking distance to Fuqua. Easy and healthy fast food options nearby. Close to food stores e.g. Kroger & Harris Teeter. Close to WaDuke trail.
Not the safest neighborhood and has little transit. There have been issues at other apartment complexes with safety, but Heights has been very safe. It is absolutely fine to walk around in the day here, but not at night. There are not very many restaurants or bars nearby, although downtown Durham is 10 minutes away.
