Very convenient, safe, and nice

I love living at trinity commons because of its proximity to campus and ammenities. I love having a gym and pool in the building as well as parking. The staff are responsive and helpful. The one thing that I don't love is that the floors 1-3 have poor cellphone service and calls/messages can only be sent with wifi.

Convenient

Trinity Commons is a quick walk to campus, staff are friendly and responsive, we have been happy with maintenance work. Amenities are nice (pool, gym). It is more expensive than other apartments in the area. Lots of takeout places nearby. On a very busy road, not a very pretty area but can easily go for walks or runs on campus. The area feels very safe during the day though I avoid going out alone at night.

Best place for Med School

Trinity Commons is excellent. I love knowing my property managers and I actually did an intragram takeover for them. The social spaces at trinity are really great (outdoor deck, 3 different outdoor courtyards, a large tv lounge for movie nights), they have an amazing gym that I use almost every day, and I can walk to school which is a HUGE plus, and I don't have to pay for Duke parking. My rent is 1265 for a gigantic room, which is really nice since I lived in Boston before and paid much more for a lot less.

Luxury living close to campus

My experience at Trinity Commons has been very pleasant. The amenities—including a well-equipped gym, a pool, hot tubs, sauna, outdoor grill, package system—make your busy life easier. The apartments themselves are great. Work orders are fulfilled quickly. Administration is super nice and listens to your concerns.

Solid for the location

Building is super close to Duke law and med. I walk in most days and didn't buy a parking pass.

Solid amenities when they aren't broken; Pool, Resistance Pool, Jacuzzi, Sauna, Steam Room, Gym, Grilling Courtyard, Reading Courtyard, Business Center, Entertaining Space and Dog Run (small).

Mgmt is nice. Depending on what part of the building you live in, mgmt fine people for leaving their trash bins out past 9 am. However, they usually let the fine go if you talk to them.

Quality of the apt itself is decent and was better than most of the other apts in the area.

Maintenance is quick (same day or next day). However, they don't like to do more intensive work when there is a quick bandaid fix. That said, they are really great for most things.

Excellent apartment and community

The apartments are spacious and recently renovated - some include balconies and jacuzzi tubs. Appliances are fairly new. Maintenance and front office are very responsive.

Amenities include a steam room, sauna, large gym, multiple indoor and outdoor pools.

Trinity

Great to have many classmates living in the same building and in nearby buildings. This makes living alone not too lonely as classmates are minutes away. The gym is very nice, although a squat rack would be nice. The apartment unit is good quality although there are occasional cockroaches and I've had issues with my blinds and faucet breaking.

Trinity Commons is amazing!

I love Trinity Commons! It is walking distance from campus, which is so convenient for class, weekly COVID tests, and for rotations during second year in the hospital. The apartment is incredibly safe- there is a security guard, you need keys to get into the apartment garage and floors, etc. I love my room, and it has the perfect amount of space and light. The entire management staff is incredibly responsive and kind, and all of my maintenance requests are completed within a day. There are so many events hosted for guests, and the amenities are great.

Living at Trinity

I live in a 2bed2bath at Trinity Commons and it is a great option for Duke Med students. It is only a ~10-15 minute walk from TSCHE, and there are a number of restaurants and businesses right across the street. However, the location comes with its downsides because the immediate surrounding area is not that great for walking (i.e., no neighborhood/community/park to walk in). The management is the best I've ever had; they always have fun events, they are very responsive and easy to work with, and they know your names! The amenities are great (resistance pool, sauna, courtyards, etc). Parking is included and is very convenient because the garage is also 7 floors like the building so you can park on the floor you live on.
Fairly major con is that it is expensive but comparable to surrounding apartment complexes.

Getting around Erwin - LaSalle

Erwin - LaSalle Reviews

430 reviews
It's been perfectly fine. People are nice but it's not much of a community, just a place where people live. Behind the Belmont which had a spate of robberies a few months back, but the Flats is further away from the main road and is better lit. So far no security incidents or concerns at the Flats. Affordability depends on which apartment complex you choose in the Erwin-LaSalle area. Wide range in rents, ranging from very expensive to very affordable depending on which one you pick.
The broader neighborhood's chief attribute is convenience to Duke. A lot of students live in the apartment complexes around here. It can be inconvenient sometimes getting to a supermarket from the neighborhood, though (eventually they're going to re-open a Harris Teeter on Hillsborough, which should mitigate this issue somewhat).
The neighborhood was perfectly fine when I started living there, but recently there have been some armed robberies in apartment buildings that are about a 10 minute walk away. However, I would like to say that I have not felt unsafe walking home at night and the security at Trinity is quite high. For example, you have to use a special key to get into the lobby (where a security guard sits after dark) and then you have to use the key to get in from the lobby to where the rooms are, and then again to get into your room. There are about 10 good restaurants within walking distance ranging from greek food to Mexican food to sushi so it's great for a quick dinner when you don't want to cook. There is also a hair salon and a manicure place, as well as a Walgreens pharmacy. We are very close to Duke Hospital and the bus systems are very accessible.
The apartments are close to campus and easily accessible through bus, bike, or walking if desired. There is a nearby Kroger that is a less than 5 min drive away just up LaSalle St. Overall, there are some older apartments further up the road that have had issues with crime in the past, but The Heights and other apartments around the area seemed to be insulated from those issues.
The food in the area is really accessible and I feel quite safe in the surrounding area, excluding the gas stations and bus stop. I've heard some odd things at night but never seen anything fishy and feel safe coming home at night. +Tons of dogs!
Lofts is right next to a few restaurants - TGIFridays, Chipotle, Enzo's, Noodles, Smash Burger, Sushi Love, etc. The Kroger grocery store is just a few minutes away, off of Lasalle. This is a quiet neighborhood.
Quiet neighbourhood. Conveniently located to West Campus and walking distance to Fuqua. Easy and healthy fast food options nearby. Close to food stores e.g. Kroger & Harris Teeter. Close to WaDuke trail.
Not the safest neighborhood and has little transit. There have been issues at other apartment complexes with safety, but Heights has been very safe. It is absolutely fine to walk around in the day here, but not at night. There are not very many restaurants or bars nearby, although downtown Durham is 10 minutes away.
