I like the Streeterville neighborhood so far, there is a good amount of grocery stores and restaurants. My only complaint is that there is limited El train lines in the area.
Best neighborhood in Chicago! Clean, safe, close proximity to a lot of dining and entertainment, easy to get around. The only issue is the traffic and crowds on summer weekends - but that's because everyone wants to be here.
Pros: very safe, great transportation options in the Red line and all the busses you can think of, close to all of the entertainment and social life options of River North without the price

Cons: 35-50 minute commute via the 2 to Hyde Park (but it's a great bus! Mostly U of C commuters and very reliable.)
The Streeterville area was still pretty sleepy when I moved here three years ago. Since then, there has been an incredible amount of development. New luxury apartments and condos are going up, several new restaurants, a brand new target and Whole Foods. Its become a great place for professionals who enjoy living downtown, but without the club crowds in River North.
If you are ever bored in Streeterville, you have no one to blame but yourself. within a 10 minute walk, you have access to world class dining, several theaters, and the best shopping in the midwest. Also, being in the heart of downtown public transportaion is plentiful. The downside is you have to pay for all these things. Everything is more expensive in Streeterville. We find it worth driving 20-30 minutes out to do grocery shopping.
I've lived in Streeterville in 3 different buildings since 2014. I love how you still get a lot of restaurants and stores but don't have to be in River North.
There are a few buses that are near by that help get residents down to the loop. Also it's pretty easy to walk around and the cross walks are pedestrian friendly. I'm always able to get around by foot and buses/trains. Streeterville is a very safe neighborhood and I've never felt unsafe walking around at night. The streets are well lit.
Noise is not usually too big of an issue in this neighborhood; it's pretty quiet at night.
There are multiple grocery stores nearby for multiple choices. Also there are a bunch of great places to eat so one will not get bored with options.
Close to the Loop, fairly safe area. Lots of noise between daytime construction and the nearby hospital. Multiple grocery stores within walking distance, including the fancy Whole Foods. Restaurants tend more toward chain than local. Movie theatres and entertainment options within blocks, Ohio St Beach and Navy Pier nearby. Post office nearby, albeit a very slow post office. New Target also! A number of buses run from Navy Pier to the Loop, west on Grand and north to Chicago, and other buses can be picked up from Michigan for additional north/south options. Overall a great place to live, but not for someone looking for "unique character" in a neighborhood.
