Great newer space

While a little farther from campus, great new amenities with lots of great people and an awesome 1 bedroom space. Have really enjoyed living here.

Excellent building, but a bit of a walk to campus

Location is convenient to downtown Evanston, but perhaps a bit far from Kellogg (~12-15 minute walk). Its got a great pool and a lot of Kellogg students.

Lots of Kellogg Students

New building, nice facilities (although somewhat cheap in terms of some of the building materials), and LOTS of Kellogg students. However, is about a mile walk to school and with the new building will probably be 1.5 miles. Management leaves something to be desired when it comes to intelligence / attention although building staff are very nice and helpful

New building, close to downtown Evanston

It is slightly away from downtown and a 15 minute walk to school . Apartments are a little small but nice. It does cost a premium to rent here. Many Kellogg students live here so there is a good community and the amenities are great.

Convenient, Clean, Modern and Social

1717 Ridge is a great apartment for someone who values amenities and a social environment. Especially in the winter, the gym in the building is fantastic. The common spaces for get togethers are perfect for Kellogg students hosting social events. The building is so close to the bars and restaurants in town (and 27Live!) it is great for going out. It's also very close to the trains that run downtown. If someone in the apartment commutes to Chicago, it's actually faster to commute to the loop on the Metra from 1717 Ridge than from living in Lincoln Park or Lakeview and taking the L to the loop.

The apartments are smaller in size, but very nice. All stainless appliances, granite counters and wood floors. The apartments are bright with lots of windows. The common spaces are well maintained and attractive.

The downsides include the longer walk to class (17 minutes door to door) and the add ons. Rent does not include parking, gas, electric, internet/cable, water, trash and sewer. Water trash and sewer run around $35/month, we have upgraded internet (no cable) for $49/month and electric ~$55/month.

Overall we're very happy with our choice. It does cost more than some other options but I think the value is worth it. I'd make the same choice again knowing what I know today.

Nice amenities but expensive and far from campus

New building with good amenities - gym, free coffee, pool, business center, party room. Heated parking is extra but a nice option for the snowy winters. The units are new and updated - hardwood floors, gas stoves, good closet space, balconies... the top floor units have fireplaces and bluetooth. Downside is that the building is far from campus and expensive. It is convenient for the metra/eL if you need to make it downtown and there is a campus shuttle that picks up within a block. Overall the building is updated, clean and offers many amenities but units are small, rent is expensive and building is far from campus.

Downtown Evanston Reviews

Downtown Evanston has everything you need. E2 is walkable to campus, a Target, and plenty of restaurants, as well as Metra and L stations to get to Chicago. Right across the street is a Subway, a Thai restaurant, and a pizza place, plus there’s a 7-Eleven about a block away, so you’re very close to options if you need food in a pinch.
Close to downtown Evanston but a bit far from E2/the reserve. One of closest apartments to Trader Joes/Whole Foods/Jewel Osco while also being close to campus. Very close to the lake!
Downtown Evanston has everything you need from a downtown including grocery stores, restaurants, and convenience stores.
Downtown Evanston is great - plenty of great food within walking distance, Metra and El trains right nearby, a really nice place to be. Only downside is it's far from school and the only truly walkable grocery store is a Whole Foods, which can get expensive. Overall, wouldn't want to live elsewhere though.
Close to grocery stores and restaurants. Very easy access to Lake Michigan as well!
There isn't much to do here, but that's true pretty much everywhere in Evanston. We're in walking distance to all of "downtown" Evanston, so restaurants / fast food / subway, etc. It's a slightly longer walk than desired to Kellogg, but that's fine.
The apartment is central to downtown and is walking distance to most bars, restaurants, shops, beach, etc. Evanston is a bit of a sleepy town (especially during the pandemic...I've been told it was much more vibrant pre-pandemic).
I live just south of the main downtown area, and it's the perfect intersection of being close to the action but also a bit removed when you want some quiet. I like being a in a more residential pocket, so there is slightly less foot traffic and really nice areas to walk around with a dog, etc.
