HPT is great!

I love living at HPT, management is extremely responsive and fast about fixing any issues. There is communal laundry, but I have never had any issues and am always able to find an open machine. Packages are secure and I am never worried about anything being stolen. The doormen are extremely friendly, and in my experience, all residents are considerate and cordial with one another.

Would recommend

This is a great apartment. Very reasonable rent for a safe building. A lot of the apartments overlook the water. Management is very responsive and usually fixes things day of.

HPT Review

I really like living at HPT (I previously lived at the Shoreland). The Shoreland was great but got too expensive for me. At HPT, I still feel very close to the lake, which I value. The door staff is great, and I feel very safe. I like that there is in-building parking ($200 extra/month). The workout room doesn't have a ton of equipment, which is fine because I mostly use the elliptical/treadmill - it is on the 20th floor and has an amazing lake view. No in unit laundry if that matters to you. I also can unlock my door from an app which is nice (keypad, no physical key). I love that it is such a short walk to the metro and that there are law school bus stops on both ends of the block.

Near Regents, but a better option

Rather than bunking up with the rest of the law school at Regents, my roommates and I opted for this nearby 22-story apartment building. Hyde Park Tower's 3-bedroom apartments have big windows and a great view of the lake. The gym had everything I needed and was open 24/7. If you're looking for a high-rise apartment in the vicinity of 53rd, I think this is the best option.

It's ok for 1L

Wouldn't have picked another building in Hyde Park for 1L, but it's not my favorite. Will probably move out of Hyde Park next year.

I like Hyde Park. I'm close to everything on 53rd, and most of the time I don't feel unsafe. I'm also close enough to Kenwood that I can walk/run there for a more quiet, less busy experience. Kenwood Park is the best.
There's nothing that compares to being in the neighborhood that UChicago is in. Great restaurants and access to the world class lakefront
I like living in Hyde park- it's close to the law school, and I have all the shops and things I need around.
I really enjoy living in Hyde Park. I love how residential and clean it is. It's a great place to go on walks and explore the beautiful historic houses throughout the area. Yet, it still has plenty of restaurants and places to go. It's nice to live in this residential area close to the Law School and still be only a 20-minute uber away from downtown. Safety is something I think about a lot, but this comes with living in any big city. I try to avoid walking alone at night and walk in groups whenever possible. I never have my music blasting. I also carry my pepper spray and keys in my hand at all times when I'm out walking.
Very close to "downtown" Hyde Park so pretty much everything is around you. Transportation to the University of Chicago is also really close by. So are several CTA bus stops and the Metra. There are several restaurants, grocery stores, and shops close by. The building is truly located in a great place.

There have been very few issues with crime and gun violence around the area but like in every major city, being vigilant is important. I have not been too worried about safety but I am careful because things do happen.
Hyde park isn't the most convenient place to live in Chicago, but it is the most convenient place to get to University of Chicago. At times it may not feel like the safest area, but personally I have never experienced any issues. The commute to school is pretty easy, give or take the accuracy of the bus times.
It's got everything you need. Biggest thing is obviously the proximity to campus.
I love living in Hyde Park, you can view lots of beautiful scenery and easily access to the Loop area for entertainment.
Though Hyde Park is safer area compared to the nearby, needless to say, you should be careful not to walk alone in the nighttime.
