Great value

Huge studio, great value, and great location. It's an older building, so there are some janky things like dark hallways, stove doesn't have a fume hood, but all the essentials are there, and lots of Kellogg students in the buliding

Unbelievable value for space in an A+ location

This place ticks all the boxes for me. More space than I know what to do with, minimal fuss from management, 1 block from Whole Foods, 2 blocks from Target, 3 blocks from almost all off-campus events. I'm a sucker for buildings with character, so it's I'm willing to give up in-unit laundry and doormen for hardwood floors, cornicing and tons of natural light.

Basic, but big and affordable

Hallways are pretty old and laundry room is kind of hidden away in the basement but the units are large compared to the average in Evanston

Smaller Community

Great building. Very new and clean. I like that it is smaller than most buildings - so it feels more homey and there is less partying in the common spaces.

Spacious units but beware

Large, spacious units but of varying quality and consistency. Definitely recommend checking out several units to see which one fits your needs. Most units are OK but I know of several that have had bug issues - particularly the house centipedes. Management and building manager are responsive though.

Great value

An older building with a ton of character (read: fixtures and appliances will need repairs and things are generally a bit run-down) but the best value in town. I pay less to live on my own with a crazy amount of space than I would to live with roommates in other buildings, and I'm about a 15-20 minute walk to the Glub. No gym and the laundry room is a bit of a hike, but it's worth it to me for the lower price.

Lots of "character"

Apartments are very affordable and close to campus, but are very old and have some problems-- outdated appliances, very creaky floors and peeling paint, smells and pest problems.

Amazing value

I love living here, as I get a lot space for my money. The location is great- close to Whole Foods and bars. Only downside is that the building is a little old and doesn't have a gym. It's a mix of Kellogg students, undergrads, and Evanston townies that live in the building.

It's ok

Advantages :
- large flat, good kitchen (with air extraction, not the case at McManus), nice courtyard, good location, calm area
- Responsive management the few times I needed (drain, lighting..)
- price rather ok for a one bedroom of good size
- very calm, no noise, appropriate heating in winter

Limits :
- pretty old building, all carpet which I am not a fan of. Some insects in the Fall months, so can happen, but did not last long, management took care of it
You have to buy your own internet and TV access (which can be expensive you need).
Electricity : 30$/month (paid to the landlord every month), Internet : $30-40. TV (if you need) 40+$. All is included at McManus (just if you make your calculations)
- Laudry room a bit old, not super quality : washing machine and dryers, but don't expect high quality + you have to pay (1.25$ per load) whereas it's free and better quality at McManus

Overall, the building is ok, not a big fan of the laundry room (super old, should really be modernized in priority). 1500 chicago avenue flats seem more modern.
A few Kellogg students but you have your own space and privacy, not a student residence

Downtown Evanston Reviews

Lots of apartments and family homes in the area. I always see someone riding their bike or walking throughout the day. It's a block from the police station, and only 2-3 blocks to downtown. Close to intercampus shuttle, 201 bus stop (3 blocks), and Dempster purple line (1.5 blocks). Nice area to live, quiet at night.
Downtown Evanston is a great place to live if you're a NU student. It's super easy to get to campus via either walking or the bus, and has convenient groceries within walking distance. The food scene is not the best, but good enough.
Evanston is the epitome of a college town, everything you need and most of what you want is within a 10 minute walk.
I really enjoy living in downtown Evanston. Everything that I need is within walking distance, and it is a 10-15 minute walk to my classes.
Safe, walkable area, even late at night depending on the streets you take. Great for convenience in terms of getting to campus, no car needed, access to many public transit options. You lose out in terms of cheap food options and fun nightlife - there are only a couple of bars open after 9PM on the weekends and for cheap food you're stuck with Chipotle or at best Tomate. But the lake and beach are within walking distance and you live close to other NU students making it well worth it for me.
Evanston really is a nice town. There's loads of food, both chains and otherwise, and a number of shops and things if you don't mind moving around a little. Driving in the greater Evanston area is not a lot of fun, I will say. I get the sense that the city doesn't much like the University and its constituents, and that the students don't always respect the city. It's not a perfect relationship, but it works. I can easily walk or take transit to class on the Evanston campus, and when I have class in Chicago I take transit, which usually takes more than an hour in the morning and close to an hour coming home.
Downtown Evanston is super cute! There are tons of restaurants and a handful of bars so I find that it offers a good bit of variety for the neighborhood size. There are street festivals, a great farmers market, summer concerts in the square and other community events I've enjoyed. Would highly recommend Evanston anyone who wants access to the city but a self-sufficient "urban burb" type neighborhood.
Pros: Great location near key Kellogg hangouts like World of Beer, Nevins, Five and Dime, Prairie Moon, etc. Also convenient to Bennison's Bakery! Great for late nights- can get home in < 5 minutes without ubering. Also near both Metra and L- ideal if you plan to spend some of your time in downtown Chicago.

Cons: Long walk from the Global hub. Closest grocery store is Whole Foods, a bit of a hike to TJ's and Jewel.
