Great building without the bells & whistles

Park Evanston is newly renovated (as of summer 2018), so everything is now modern and up-to-date. Chose this because of:
(1) price - so much cheaper than E2, Centrum, and the other "luxurious" units
(2) location, location, location - right next to Whole Foods, Peet's, and Downtown Evanston.
(3) unit - great natural light and large windows. Great rooftop pool with a view.

construction noise is non stop during communicated hours

Great location but remodeling brings value down

It's a greatly located building close to everything in Evanston. Not as nice as E2 or Centrum but definitely better than most other options. They are remodeling the building and that makes it very uncomfortable to live in - considering the rent !

As cheap as it gets in Evanston and not bad setup for the price

You definitely sacrifice some of the amenities that nicer buildings like 1717 or E2 provide, but if you don't care about things like granite counter tops and hardwood floors throughout, OHo is a great option. Having internet and cable included is great, and we have tons of space. Appliances are older and you still get the benefit of washer/dryer in unit.

Worth searching around for an updated unit (original carpet removed, kitchen/bathrooms renovated) because there's very little price different between units even though quality varies a lot. Some units are pet friendly which we needed (our landlord didn't require an additional monthly fee, just a non refundable deposit, but different policies unit to unit).

Gas grills allowed on balconies is a major perk!

Face the Lake

If you can, get an apartment that faces the lake because I think it's brighter and more sunlight. Also apartments above level 6 you get a view, instead of facing the Wholefoods carpark.
Pro's:
- generally pretty quick with maintenance
- apartments are big and reasonably priced for what you get (vs E2 for example)

Con's:
- management sucks a bit - they turn the heating on really high as soon as it hits October even if it's warm. And the heating is pro-rata to every apartment so you have to pay for it even if everyone is complaining it's too hot
- they charge you for everything like if you get locked out it's $50 (even though the doorman just needs to come up to let you in they have spare keys on site)

Not Ideal

In my opinion, the reason a Kellogg student lives at the Park Evanston is because they want to pay a bit less than some of the other buildings and have a fairly decent location right next to the Whole Foods. The issue with that plan (which was what I had thought I was doing) is that the building management is horrendous. The building is old and out of date, the people who work there aren't helpful, and the cost jumps up aggressively after your first year so that if you plan to live there for 2 years you will end up paying a similar amount to the other buildings. I highly recommend staying away.

Ideal Location!

Perfect location right by the Whole Foods and close to most of the bars in Evanston. The building is a little more rundown than some of the others, with carpeted floors. Management is generally very responsive and friendly.

Downtown Evanston has everything you need. E2 is walkable to campus, a Target, and plenty of restaurants, as well as Metra and L stations to get to Chicago. Right across the street is a Subway, a Thai restaurant, and a pizza place, plus there’s a 7-Eleven about a block away, so you’re very close to options if you need food in a pinch.
Close to downtown Evanston but a bit far from E2/the reserve. One of closest apartments to Trader Joes/Whole Foods/Jewel Osco while also being close to campus. Very close to the lake!
Downtown Evanston has everything you need from a downtown including grocery stores, restaurants, and convenience stores.
Downtown Evanston is great - plenty of great food within walking distance, Metra and El trains right nearby, a really nice place to be. Only downside is it's far from school and the only truly walkable grocery store is a Whole Foods, which can get expensive. Overall, wouldn't want to live elsewhere though.
Close to grocery stores and restaurants. Very easy access to Lake Michigan as well!
There isn't much to do here, but that's true pretty much everywhere in Evanston. We're in walking distance to all of "downtown" Evanston, so restaurants / fast food / subway, etc. It's a slightly longer walk than desired to Kellogg, but that's fine.
The apartment is central to downtown and is walking distance to most bars, restaurants, shops, beach, etc. Evanston is a bit of a sleepy town (especially during the pandemic...I've been told it was much more vibrant pre-pandemic).
I live just south of the main downtown area, and it's the perfect intersection of being close to the action but also a bit removed when you want some quiet. I like being a in a more residential pocket, so there is slightly less foot traffic and really nice areas to walk around with a dog, etc.
