Lovely Rental Experience

Excellent amenities, views (but North view will be obstructed soon), and location. Grocery store very close. Small, well laid out and updated units. Dog park and playground close. No nearby daycare for infants or tots. Terrible basic internet is included.

Awesome luxury

My wife and I loved living at The Tides. We had an amazing view despite the small (746 sq ft) apartment.

Cons:

The apartment is somewhat small, although there is plenty of storage and closet space.

Rent is high.

The restaurant scene nearby isn't great.

Temperature control. The temperature is controlled by the building so residents can only turn the air On or Off.

Internet. The speed is only 6 mbps and using multiple devices at a time can drastically slow speeds to a crawl.

Pros:
The gym is wonderful so we do not need to pay for a separate membership

Location. Close to work and groceries so we do not need a car and rarely take public transit.

The view. It was spectacular and the type that our friends would take pictures of when they visited, but it is becoming obstructed due to construction of the Wanda Vista Tower.

Luxurious. The apartment is beautiful and it always feels great to be here.

Excellent building!

The Tides is a great place to live. They offer a whole floor full of amenities that are all included within your rent. I am in the heart of Chicago with an amazing 6-acre park right out my front door. My favorite part is having access to a grocery store right across the park. It makes city living super convenient. I would recommend everyone to look into the Tides.

As expected, nothing better, sometimes less

I've been living at the Tides for several years now and have had a roller-coaster experience. For the rental amount, you can't beat the southern views given by the building in Lakeshore east as well as the park and having Mariano's grocery store directly across the park. However, location aside, the building itself has had many issues. When things are going great, it's mostly as advertised. However, there have been floods from leaks under the sink, broken doorknobs, floods from above units, carpeting issues, noise issues with improper plumbing, smoking and pet issues. Also the gym almost always seems to have one broken piece of equipment that lasts months (in a tiny gym, each piece matters!), the "office" printers are almost always out of toner/ink, and the hot tubs are always really too hot, cold, or super sandy. Don't get me wrong, I understand these problems happen. It's more the approach the management office takes to any issues. For a "luxury" apartment, one would expect that problems are dealt with in a friendly and efficient manner. However, when we tell the property manager, we are left with an "oh well, hopefully it gets fixed soon" type of attitude, that sometimes is infuriating. When things are fixed and working right, we love our apartment!! I guess you get what you pay for and for the most affordable building in the Lakeshore East community, you have to deal with inconveniences.

Ok

Was very good until huge construction started right in front of the windows.
A lot of noise and it planned to be finished in 2019. Pool is very small. Location is amazing.
Navy Pier is close. Marianos is 3 minutes away. Recommended after the construction is over.

Beautiful property in an excellent location

I have been living at the Tides for over one year. I initially lived in a convertible apartment (which was surprisingly very spacious) with an absolutely breathtaking view. I recently moved into the 2B2Ba apartment. The views out of my new apartment are not as nice as those in the convertible unit, but they are still very nice. I anticipate that this will change since they are putting up a 93-story apartment building right next to my property.

Aside from the view, the pool is very nice and always clean. The maintenance staff is terrific- without a doubt the best maintenance of any apartment complex I have ever lived at. The door staff are also very courteous. Even though you live right downtown, the apartments are very quiet. Keep in mind, you are living right downtown, so expect to pay accordingly. Overall, this community is wonderful and I would highly recommend it to prospective tenants.

Great place!

What works out best is the great scenic location that the building has. Plus, it is open to people from all walks of life and caters to all price ranges in the locality. Near to a pet park. The management is extremely friendly and accommodating. Any requests are handled immediately. Plus the building is maintained at high standards and gives a plush feel. Love the place, good ventilation and natural light. Plus I can wake up to a beautiful sunrise.

Modern Apartments, Beautiful views

I have a south view looking at the Park at Lake-shore East and I love my View. I am also high enough to see millennium park and the new Maggie Dailey park. The apartments are The Tides have more modern, dark cabinets than The Shoreham next door, and a small premium paid for that feature.

Perfect if you work downtown and love to stop

The Tides is a lovely apartment building with a park right outside the front door and a Mariano's just across the park. There are a variety of restaurants in the neighborhood (most of which honor a resident discount) and you're five-minute walks from shopping on Michigan Avenue or State Street. The building is in near-pristine condition, and it has convenient facilities including a gym, a sauna, hot tubs, an outdoor pool and a lounge area that serves free coffee in the morning. It's a quiet building with small families and other working professionals.

The Loop Reviews

Very secure and tranquil. Very close to public transportations. Namely millennium station which I use to ride the Metra trains to campus.
Very close to the lake and navy pier
Great park surrounded by all the buildings.
There’s good supermarket that has everything. A couple restaurants and coffee shops are also there.
Amazing place to have a social life! It is super close to Gleacher and to where recruiting events take place. Most Boothies live in this area and that helps creating a nice community. West loop with amazing restaurants is 2 metro stops/5min uber. TNDCs also happen walking distance. Its also where most touristic attractions are so its great for when friends/family visit you.
Safe neighborhood and good because it’s where most Booth students live but it’s a little sterile esp at night. Lots of tourists around. I would not live in this neighborhood if most other students didnt live here. However it is convenient to get to most places around chicago. In the middle of everything
Columbus plaza is on the quieter side, a few blocks away from Michigan. Tides and park millennium are even quieter but lack the river views that CP offers. It can be a bit too empty at night, which may be of concern to some. Most of the nearby restaurants in the pedway focus on serving office workers so they close around 6pm. Great access to river walk for running or biking.
The Loop has pros and cons. Living in the Loop is nice because during the day up until about 8 p.m. there are people walking around the streets which is nice because you feel more secure walking. However, on weekends and after a certain time at night it empties and it can be a little eerie.

That being said, if you're anywhere near State St. or the Mag mile, there's pretty much people around at any given hour. It's fun to live downtown because the streets are bustling with interesting people, sometimes there's live music on street corners and there are a lot of restaurants and shops.
Beautiful area in a great location with a dog park, playground, and full service grocery store in short walking distance. Restaurants and transit are just ok in this area, but not a bad walk to the "L" and that opens up the restaurant options. No close-by childcare for kids under preschool age, but great preschool and private elementary school, with high price tags. Ubers often find this place impossible to locate due to GPS's going crazy with the multiple layers of Wacker, Randolph, Columbus, and East South Water Street.
The Loop is an unlikely place to live but I love it. You are in the heart of the city, close to every L line possible, very good restaurants and walking distance to River North without paying River North prices for apartments. Apartments are smaller throughout the neighborhood but if you are an urbanite and don't mind limited closet space you will love it here. Mostly everyone is walking distance to work.
Great location close to blue, brown, green, pink, orange and red lines. 10 minute walk to State St., 5-10 minutes to River North, 15 minutes to Michigan Avenue. Grocery stores aren't really walkable but most people in the building use PeaPod/Instacart. Safe to walk around at night. A lot of new restaurants (quick service) opening in the area.
