Great, friendly, collegiate
Shoreland is a great choice for law students! It is convient to the law school, grocery store, and a number of restaurants. Shoreland also is right on Lake Michigan which is truly incredible. The building has a number of law students living in it, offering an almost “dorm-feel” - I really commend for any 1Ls and 2Ls that want a little bit of distance from the law school, while being conveniently located on a bus route

Great, friendly, collegiate
The Shoreland is a great building for 1Ls and 2Ls. The building offers a collegiate environment as a great deal of law students live there. It is a great distance from the law school (not far, but easy to access via bus line).

Quality apartments, far from campus
I've had a good experience with Mac and at the Shoreland. The apartment is relatively spacious and has lots of windows with a pleasant view. It was important to me to have a dishwasher and in-unit washer-dryer and the Shoreland was one of the only places within my price range where I was able to get that. I don't have a parking spot, but I have not had an issue with free street parking as it's a quiet street. I also had a much smoother leasing process after a negative experience trying to rent from Ivy Residences. As a law student, it has been convenient to have many of my classmates in the building. The only major downside is that the Shoreland is far from campus, particularly from the Law School. I walked my commute for much of the first quarter and it is just over a 30 minute walk. There is a bus stop right in front of the building, but the bus can be inconsistent and infrequent, especially when trying to get back from campus to the building in the late afternoon and evening. The building is about a 15 minute walk from two grocery stores, but the Shoreland is also rather distant from most of Hyde Park's coffee shops and restaurants.

Shoreland for Three Years
I've lived in Shoreland for three years, and I think it's pretty good value for a student. While there are certainly more affordable options in Hyde Park, the amenities, proximity to transit (the 171 bus stops right out front), 24-hour front desk staffing, and proximity to the lake make it a really great place to live. I always feel safe here, and while there are the usual difficulties of living in an apartment building, I would really recommend it for UChicago Law students (especially compared to other options!).

Shoreland is a good choice for law students
Overall good building. A bus stops right in front of Shoreland and the Law School. The bus doesn't come by frequently enough though. Otherwise the location is a bit inconvenient - about 10 mins walk from groceries and 15 mins walk from metra. 6 mins walk to 6 Bus station that can take you downtown.

Overall good choice
I lived here for all three years of law school. The property management can be a little unreliable at times, but the building feels safe and has its own bus stop that goes directly to the law school.

Seems pricey, but it's worth it; it's good enough
The staff is excellent. Apartments are excellent and updated.
I did quite a bit of searching before settling on Shoreland, and it's true that you're going to be paying ~$400 more per month than you would at most other places in Hyde Park. Plain and simple, what you're paying for is central air conditioning, the in-unit washer and dryer, and door staff. If you are fine with a radiator, window A/C, stairs, and shared laundry room, then save the money and go elsewhere. If you can afford the conveniences, it's worth it.

Hyde Park Reviews
There have been very few issues with crime and gun violence around the area but like in every major city, being vigilant is important. I have not been too worried about safety but I am careful because things do happen.
Though Hyde Park is safer area compared to the nearby, needless to say, you should be careful not to walk alone in the nighttime.
