Bristol Southside

I lived there 2023-2025. I moved in with a roommate under a grandfathered lease so the price was a little cheaper compared to other similar units within the condominium. The entire building is mostly composed of professional students and professions (residents/fellows, traveling nurses, dental students, med students). I arrived to new building management and didn’t have any issues— though I’m a renter and not an owner. As a renter, I worked with my unit’s owner who used a 3rd party management (Blackwell Nelson). The owners worked with the new building management and had condo/unit responsibilities that I cannot speak to. My unit was spacious (both living space and closet). The only “thin wall” was the ceiling but not really an issue. The community spaces were well maintained without concern. There was a period where security was of concern but management was responsive and alerted the building. Any frustrations were the parking deck which was under construction as well. I also really enjoyed my time there because I had multiple friends in the building. On occasion we’d walk to class together via street or through the hospital.

I’d still live there if wasn’t for my away rotations. It didn’t make financial sense to stay but would definitely consider returning if I matched at UAB for residency.

I love being able to walk to class and get my groceries without driving. Regarding the units and amenities- they're nothing special but there also aren't any deal-breaking issues either.

I love having a lot of medical students live in the same building!!

I love living here as a medical student. Management is very easy to reach, and it’s very quiet and calm. I also feel extremely safe. The pool is great and the gym is super convenient/kept well. Bristol’s proximity to school, publix, and a boatload of restaurants is extremely hard to beat. The fire alarm does go off from time to time. Parking is super convenient, but people drive fast and the parking deck is small so gotta be careful with that one.

I rent from an owner, and I got a very good deal! Its a 10 min walk to school for me. My only issue is parking because I do not have a spot in the deck, so I have to pay $80 a month to park in a deck across the street.

Good location, solid apartments. However, management can be poor in responding to problems.

Biggest selling point of living at Bristol is that it's about a minute walk to being in the hospital and about a 10 minute walk to Volker Hall (the med school). Many medical students and residents live here. However, major downsides include the management -- who is not very responsive and essentially never on the premises -- high cost/rent, and problems with packages being stolen on the regular or not being delivered properly in the first place.
