Bristol Southside

Tons of medical students/healthcare people live in Bristol. It's super close to the hospital (5-10 minute walking distance). It's all condos that are generally rented out. It's on the pricier side but the condos are all nice and relatively new. The property has a small gym, a pool, and gated parking garage. However, there are occasional reports of car break ins and packages being stolen. Property management is mediocre and somewhat slow to respond. Noise levels are pretty low.

Bristol is a great apartment for your rich mommy and daddy to buy you when you start medical school- then you can pretend you own a rental property despite never having a real job! It comes with all the amenities of a mid-tier motel, at the cost of an over-priced luxury condominium! Includes a half-shaded pool, a miniature diorama of a gym, and local burglars who constantly steal any package you have delivered to the area (that is, when the delivery man can enter the malfunctioning gate)! Luckily, the management is just as strong as the scaffolding maintaining the structural integrity of Building B-- somehow still holding on. But seriously, you can't beat living right next to the hospital. I would live here again. Large number of tenants are medical students, dental students, and resident physicians. Pet friendly. 4 minute walk into the hospital, 10-12 minute walk to Volker.

I really enjoyed my time at Southside Station. The property manager is extremely responsive and willing to assist with whatever maintenance issues may arise. The apartment itself was very spacious for the cost of rent, and the included parking is a huge plus when living in the downtown Birmingham area. The apartment is located within 100 yards of UAB Hospital (North Pavilion), which is extremely convenient for anyone that works/studies at UAB. The downside to this location is that you are located in close proximity to the emergency department, which lends itself to a lot of ambulance siren noise at all hours.

Bristol is full of other professional students, medical residents and physicians. It is quiet, nice, but not overpriced in general (vs places like the venue and 20 midtown). Condos are individually owned so experiences may vary by management and condo finishes vary as well. Probably not the best place for a pet, but there are plenty of people with pets in the building. Very safe. Good value.

I really love living within walking distance, and that was my top priority. It’s a 30 second walk across the street to enter the hospital and 10 minutes to Volker Hall (pass a Starbucks on the way). It has very large living spaces, which is nice with roommates to hang out. There’s a pool, grill, and a small work out room you have access to. Each apartment only comes with one parking spot, though, so my other 2 roommates have to rent a spot in the parking deck across the street (still very close!) walking distance to school, Publix, Starbucks, railroad park, and a lot of food, so I don’t really ever use my car. I love living here! Lots of other young professionals, so it’s generally pretty quiet, but still have Friendly and familiar faces around you.

Perfect spot. Walking distance to Volker through the hospital. Large community of UABSOM students.
